If you only have time to listen to one track "The End Of The Beginning" is a great start. It's even more inspiring when you take into account what he had to go through to compose it.
Sugary power pop records full of hooks make me happy too.
XTC - Skylarking, Oranges & Lemons
Redd Kross - Phaseshifter, Researching The Blues
Cheap Trick - Heaven Tonight
New Pornographers - Electric Version, Twin Cinema
The Knack - Get The Knack
Queen - Jazz
Trans Siberian Orchestra's Christmas Eve and Other Stories is a great pick me up if I'm feeling the winter blues. Only applies to the 5-6 weeks before Christmas though.

The The-Dusk
A serious work of introspection and depression. Not for the faint of heart.
Chris Isaak-Forever Blue
Nobody does sad better than Isaak. The final track sounds like it should be a happy song, until you get to the chorus.
If I need a pick me up...
Peter, Bjorn, and John-Gimme Some
The opening track called Tomorrow Has To Wait just gets me energized, and the rest of the album has some great upbeat music.
Andrew W.K.-I Get Wet
There's really no better pump-up, party album ever. Non-stop heavy, but melodic and upbeat. Super positive lyrics, even if they're simple.
