Default Acquiring Rick Nash at the Deadline

Since the team is going for it this season, does anyone think he’d be a good fit for the Flames at the trade deadline? He’s a pending UFA, the Rangers are struggling and looking to get younger, so I could see them trading him for a package of prospects/picks. He plays RW, he’s a big power forward with finesse who can skate. His scoring pace has dropped in recent years, but he scored 42 goals just 2.5 seasons ago.

I don’t think he’d get a 1st round pick in a deep upcoming draft, so that might give us a chance. Realistically, is there any prospect + a pick that you guys would be willing to give up to acquire Rick Nash at the TDL? Considering our prospect depth at the blue line and in net, I certainly would consider trading a future draft pick + Gillies/Ridditch or Kylington/_____. What do you guys think?

We don't have a first round pick. Or a second. Or a third...

It is way too early. If the Flames challenge for the President's trophy and look like they have an excellent chance of winning the cup and Nash has a great season and the trading cost is low, then absolutely.

If one of those factors isn't in place, then I doubt it happens.

Unless the acquisition cost is like B prospect and a late pick, no.
Rick Nash is a shadow of his former self.

We're not even in a playoff spot, there's no reason to speculate we'll be acquiring anything at the deadline.

I've been wanting him for a while, but he's pretty much Jagr-lite right now.

Though, if the price is right he'd be a good fit I think.

I'm curious as to what the Flames can do at the deadline if they want to beef up for a run. They really only have prospects to deal and some dying on the vine assets in Stajan.

It may be the quietest deadline day ever for the Flames.

I didn't realize this was the last year of his current contract. That will make him attractive to many more teams (including the Flames). He has been around a 50 point pace the last couple of years and has been injury prone.
In addition to that many other teams will be able to offer a better trade package, so it will be tough to get him on the team.

It couldn't include draft picks. We unloaded quite a few high round picks for Dougie and Harmonic the past few seasons. We'd have to offer prospects where we generally have a good feeling for what is being given up. Still need enough to hit that odd occasional high end pick with lots of luck sometimes involved.

I'd rather give a low-end prospect or pick for a guy like Vanek or Cammalleri, and then maybe sign Nash to a two-year deal in UFA.

Obviously we can't do picks but if they are willing to take on a project like Klimchuk and another B prospect I would be ok with it. Nash is a hell of a finisher and with Johnny feeding him...yikes.

It doesn’t sound like the interest is too high here, but I think if he price is right, we should go for it. It’s obvious watching the team right now, there’s a lot of passers on our team and not enough shooters and finishers; could be why we’re sitting 30th in goal scoring right now.

He still has the wheels to create breakaway chances, he has an incredible nose for the net and scores a lot in tight which would be helpful on the powerplay, still has a rocket of a shot and if he was able to find some chemistry, I could see him scoring a 30-40 goal pace with us.
