Default Bennett-Jankowski-Jagr a line today at Flames practice

Jagr skating with Jankowski and Bennett. #Flames

It'd be interesting to watch that line operate tomorrow. Unfortunately, it'd likely be impossible as someone would have to be sent down in order for Jagr to slot in and the only guy who doesn't require waivers is Jankowski. No waivers for the Flames today.

Lines at practice today:

Gaudreau-Monahan-Ferland
Tkachuk-Backlund-Frolik
Bennett-Jankowski-Jagr
Versteeg-Lazar-Brouwer
Glass-Stajan-Hamilton

Place F. Hamilton on waivers and send him down, problem solved.

So if no one bar Janko can be sent down we are practicing with a 3rd line that isn't an option for our next game?

Strange approach for a team that has got f all production from its 3rd and 4th lines.

Waivers take a day to process. It wouldn't happen in time for tomorrow's game.

Good. It better be a line tomorrow too. Someone/something has got to kick start that third line and get them on the scoresheet. The team won't win frequently with only 2 lines that can score. Too easy to shut down.

Ok, well I am sure there will be a bunch of posters who will blame GG for that even though it is BT's call.

Like it. Two kids and the goat.

For the Flames to reach their potential this year, it is critical they find have an effective top 9, or more to the point a strong third line.

The Sam Bennett conundrum might be the Achilles heal for this team in regard to taking the next step.

So basically they are practicing a line up that cannot be iced tomorrow. Solid use of practice time.

Now this could catch on if this line actually becomes a thing.

Either Jagr isn't playing tomorrow or Janko is getting sent down.

Either way GG is practicing a line that won't be playing tomorrow.

He is practicing a line that wont be playing together

We have no goals from our bottom 6 and he is wasting practice time on a line that won't play

Glen Gulutzan is a good head coach

The way they've been playing, and since Jagr hasn't been taken off of IR yet, wouldn't be shocked if that Bennett, Jankowski, Jagr "line" are just the scratches.

What I would like to see:

Gaudreau - Monahan - Bennett
Tkachuk - Jankowski - Jagr
anyone - Backlund - Frolik

Or is GG sending a message to his GM about his intent to ice that line. Up to the GM to make the move to make it work.

That would mean icing the best possible lineup.
Where is the challenge in that?

Nah, we just haven't heard about the upcoming trade yet.

When Treliving hangs up the phone after the agreement with Hufnagel, and Glass and Hamilton are sent over to McMahon for Marquay McDaniel the roster will be set. McDaniel will, of course, be expected to go long and improve scoring, with regular passes from the Flames PP quarterback TJ Brodie.

Or something like that....

I'll go out on a limb and say GG has forgotten more about hockey, than you will ever know.

No one here has any idea what the coaching staff is thinking, unless of course you are sitting in the boardroom. Sure, Jankowski might get sent down tomorrow, but that might be a line in a week from now, or a month from now, of later in the season.

If you happen to have two brain cells to rub together, you can probably make the assumption that there is intent behind GG's lines in practice. They might not be apparent to the uninformed just yet.

Very little in Gulutzan's head coaching career justifies that assumption, TOFan. As far as what Gulutzan has forgotten, all that statement suggests is that neither Zoller and Gulutzan should be head coach of the Calgary Flames.

Bennett, Jankowski and Jagr should work. Two guys with the speed and handle to move the puck out and up, and a guy who still has good possession skills and great awareness. Leave them together for a few and they should find some traction.

Playing Jagr, at this stage of his career, and Monahan with Gaudreau puts too much responsibility on Gaudreau to carry out of, and into the zone. Monahan and Jagr have extremely valuable skillsets, but neutral zone attack is not one of them. Putting them on the ice together outside of the power play does not play to their respective strengths, and results in wasting the assets they do possess.

Knowledge about hockey forgotten by Glen Gulutzan includes:

- Matt Bartkowski is bad. So bad in fact, that 30 teams elected to pass on offering him an NHL contract a year ago, and even now he is currently on a two way contract in the prime of his career
- Ferland has been on ice for 3 PPG in half the time as Brouwer (0 PPG)
- PKers need to have some foot speed... like Jankowski, Bennett, and F. Hamilton rather than Glass, Stajan, Brpuwer
- The Flames were 6th and 10th in goal scoring when their defense had a green light to participate beyond weak point shots
- Sam Bennett has never been anything short of a top 6 forward in his life before Gulutzan, and has never failed to help team succeed when utilized as a top 6 forward, even in the NHL, even at center, even this season, especially now as he has become our best faceoff man
- Teams sometimes respond to attempts to spark them

He is really good at this forgetting hockey stuff.
