Worth the cost to draft Matthew Tkachuk’s little brother?
I apologize for the poor timing perhaps of this thread, but I ended up on a web trail that led me to Brady Tkachuk, Matthew’s little brother. Projected as a top 5 pick in the upcoming draft and in the same mould with possibly even more skills than Matthew, would having both make for an amazing tandem or cause issues between very competitive brothers?

“He was a good little brother,” Matthew said. “When I had the size advantage, I think I toughened him up a little bit. But now, I would not mess with him. He’s a little bigger and I think a lot stronger than I am. He looks really fast and he’s going to have a great year.”
|
Would it be worth whatever it would take to move up and complete the most frustrating duo in the league to play against?
I drool at the thought of it so interested in others opinions.

Flames dont have anything close to a top 62 pick in this years draft let alone a top 5 pick. we got nuthing to get brady unless you dismantle the core.

How do you propose that the Flames acquire the assets needed to draft in such a high position? Or are you gonna go the (sub-)Par route and suggest that we tank the coming season?

Flames don't have a pick until the 3rd round of the 2018 draft.
Would have to give up a core player and maybe more to get a pick where Brady would be available.

Yeah, Flames have FLA's and CGY's own 4th round pick as their highest this coming draft.
Maybe a third rounder depending on season results as the 3rd is conditional to ARZ. But assume the Flames make the playoffs, because if they don't, that lottery pick to the isles is gonna suck.

not for a top 5. The most overvalued asset in hockey is a top 5 pick. they generally don't go anywhere lower than down to 10-12 with a decent roster player attached.

Probably Brodie or Dougie to a team in the top 5 willing to take the next step. Similar to the Stepan to AZ trade for the 7th pick last year.

Hamonic to the grease for something around 8th overall
Then Tkachuk falls a bit

It depends who is willing to trade and where he's projected to go. Depending on how Bennett does this year, I'd consider him for TJ(Tkachuk Jr.)

Ok let me put it this way then; considering we already have Matthew, would it be more worth it for the Flames to cough up the required price to draft him then any other team? So basically, would you be okay with the Flames possibly overpaying a bit to unite the brothers?

IMO, no. Brady is still just a magic bean and having to gut your team just to get one player who's not even a Laine or McDavid type is poor asset management.

Yes, IMO. Or make a deal that he stays in college then signs with the Flames as a free agent...

Yeah that’s fair, and I’m torn on how far I’d go, but how many teams have had TWO highly skilled agitators in their lineup? I can’t think of any off the top of my head and I truly feel you need a player like Tkachuk to get teams off their game. So the thought of having two, and brothers no less, makes me wonder how pricelessly beneficial it could be. Or perhaps redundant to have both.

I'd love if you could trade cold hard cash for a top 5 pick for $25 mil + a 7th rounder.

When you ask "worth the cost", what exactly are you proposing the cost would be? "Whatever it would take"?
Maybe yes, maybe no.
