Default Help me optimize my new TV for Flames games pls!

Hi all,

So a very good friend of mine recently upgraded his TV to a 4k one and had a spare 65 inch tv. It was a 2 year old LG and I got it all set up and it looks great for TV but I want to optimize it for hockey and football games. I picked it up for $150.

Does anybody have any experience working at an electronic store or can provide some guidance for settings like brightness, sharpness, and others?

I got a standard Shaw TV HD box.

Thanks in advance!

I am not sure that working at an electronics store makes someone knowledgeable in this area, usually they set the TV to "Dynamic" or "Demo" mode and leave it on display.

A lot of the calibration is going to depend on you. How much light is usually on when you watch TV? What angle do you watch at? etc.

I usually suggest people play with the default colour settings, and see if any of those work for them. If not, you may want to look into something like the THX Tune Up app. It's free and gives you a quick way to do some basic calibration.

There is a specific distance that your seating should be from the tv based on the size of your tv. I remember brownah looking at a website that told him how faraway to be from our 100+ screen...

Turn off the "smooth motion" option if the TV has it. I can't stand it.

Since most of the games are on sportsnetI suggest trading your TV for a Potato and using that instead.

If you can play youtube videos on the TV, you can use some videos there to achieve decent settings. Here's a link to one. I used one, not sure it was this one, on a projector a few weeks ago, with very good results.

EDIT: The next link is the one I used, it was good because it has instructions, although it is intended for a projector, so may not be good for TV:

Just google the model number and calibration, and you're likely to find settings that are optimized by other owners.

I’m always amazed these sportscasters and announcers can call the game with McDavid’s **** in their mouths all the time.

avsforum has some hardcore and not so hardcore TV guys who post their calibrations. If you can find calibration thread for your model you will be good.

rtings always has calibration settings but are more for their review purposes.

Most soundbars offer audio delay features. What we need is a video delay feature so the G-D sound can catch up.
