Five thoughts: Special teams cost Flames again in loss to Blues[/B]
Despite a strong start, the Flames lost the special teams battle and Wednesday’s war with the Blues. Here are five takeaways from the Flames’ second game in as many days, a 5-2 loss in St. Louis.
Happy anniversary! It's been a year since debut of Flames' 3M Line
They figured the kid would provide some spark and sizzle that night.
After all, Calgary Flames left-winger Matthew Tkachuk would be anxious to make an impression in his first big-league outing in his home city of St. Louis.
What we’ve learned since is the kid seems to provide that spark and sizzle every night.
There was no exchange of gifts or Hallmark stationary, but Wednesday marked the first anniversary of the Flames’ so-called 3M Line, and it just so happens that this happy hat-trick marked the occasion with a trip to Scottrade Center, site of their first date.
Flames Lack luck as Blues snap Calgary's road streak
"I feel like I've had some good games here," Lack said. "It's just one of those things. Too bad we couldn't keep the streak going."
Matthew Tkachuk added two assists for the Flames.
Calgary coach Glen Gulutzan felt his team played well, except on special teams.
"I thought that through [two] periods we played a pretty good game," Gulutzan said. "Five-on-five, I thought we were a good team tonight."
Gord Gillies: It’s time to step up and get an arena deal done in Calgary
I had a nightmare this weekend. In my dream, I woke up to find an email marked “high priority.” It was short and to the point: “The Calgary Flames would like to thank the citizens and fans for many wonderful years. Thanks for the memories. We’re moving to Seattle.”
That was it: “Thanks for the memories.”
The worst part about the dream was actually waking up and realizing it might happen. There is a lot of anger right now on both sides of the arena debate. Some key people involved in trying to reach a deal can’t stand being in the same room with each other. That’s not a recipe for success.

Halfway through the game and Calgary has held the Blues to six even-strength shots.
Flames absolutely killing themselves with the penalties.

Flames down by two with 2 mins to go. Gulutzan: “Get out there Stajan and Brouwer”
