Flames were totally outplaying the Sens in the first half or so of the game, but they weren't able to pot a goal, and then the bombardment of penalties happened that took them out of the game. Tore the game apart there.
Bad games will happen or things just will not go your way. This was one of them. Happens to all teams, multiple times a season.
Good thing we have another game coming up. Get back on the horse. Regroup tomorrow.

Let me preface this by saying the Flames played awful tonight. Low battle level, lazy offensive zone penalties and a lack of shooting at the right time cost them. You knew this game was eventually coming after being badly outshot in the previous games. Mike Smith got left out to dry.

That said, this new faceoff rule is the dumbest thing the NHL has instituted in a long time. It's so arbitrary that it isn't even funny; there were serval instances where we got waived out for moving slightly, and then next time we did the same thing and the puck was dropped. It's nothing more than a power trip by linesmen to be more relevant in the game besides calling offsides and icings. We better start "understanding" this dumb nuance in the game or else it's going to start costing us more.

Well if you told me the Flames would be 3-2 after the first five games I would happily have taken that given how slow this team typically starts. That said being shut out in two of five is something that shouldn't be overlooked as in the two losses they have been thoroughly worked over by the opposition. I still see a team that is less than the sum of its parts especially on defense. There's no reason this team shouldn't be at or near the league lead in most defensive categories with the talent on the blue line but you know that's just not going to happen as the discipline isn't there and they simply have a tough time playing defensively responsible hockey. Team discipline is still an issue.

1)We took stupid penalties

2) Refs officiated horribly (on both sides)

3) We relied heavily on Smith

But above all, the last minute goal in the first and the second period really hurt.

Wideman effect will have at least a 3 year phase out period, as to not look suspicious.

Moral of this story? Don't nitpick wins. Who cares if Smith gets shelled in a W?

That was a horrible game to watch especially after the superb games in California. It's nice the Flames kept the shots under 30 but unfortunately they forgot about discipline, generating offense, and giving up quality chances.

Also, the reffing was atrocious. It is a different game if the power plays are closer than 7-3 and without the momentum killing string of calls to end the 2nd.

Not gonna win many when you're killing penalties for half the game. At least they kept the shots down. Games like this will happen. Best to forget about this one and focus on beating the Canucks tomorrow night.

That was beyond frustrating. I would like to see Kulak in for the next game.

Kinda concerning when the coach says we got to clean it up in our own end and we allow 6. Tighten it up and stop trying to make the perfect play when in deep and shoot instead and things will be better.

Tired of hearing about Sam Bennett's potential. Move him to wing and try something cuz five games in and he doesnt have a point

Perfect example of why people who only focus on the shot count are not very bright. And pretty much a total momentum and excitment killer after the 3 game win streak
