True 'real' hockey games begin on 9 April 2018. I'm going now to hibernate since the first snow and frost hit.
Super stoked hockey is about to start. Summer is awesome but this certainly limits the blow.

The weekday season openers were exclusive on CBC were in 1999, 2001, 2011, 2012, and 2013. Since TSN came on air, many openers were on that station sometimes with american teams. From 1998 to 2010 (with two exceptions as mentioned) TSN and CTV Sportsnet were televising the first games.
The CBC in 2003 and then 2006 to 2010 did do doubleheaders on Thursday or Friday and TSN did the Wednesday season opener games.
