A bit surprised both have been recalled, as it was speculated by a few that Frolik may be stepping off IR. With this move, the Flames have 13 forwards on the active roster:

They've usually carried 14 forwards. I figure Frolik is back tomorrow night and we'll see one of Lomberg or Mangiapane sit. When Versteeg is back one of these guys is sent down. Or before then I suppose if they want Hrivik back, etc.
I actually wish Mangiapane would stay down longer, as much as I think he has potential did he get any points? If he does play more ice time, I want him in the top-six; hopefully not a checking role (unless the goal is to work on his defensive game deficiencies).

I think both of these players are a step up on anything we use on special teams.
Missing Frolik on the PK hurts, missing Versteeg on Pp hurts .....using certain players to lose faceoffs, turn over the puck and just basically negate power plays ......yep what a joke.
Until Glen decides to go over Camerons head and try either of these players in those roles well never know.
But hey let's just keep trying to cram squares into round holes .
Here's hoping they'd be open Fincham he something that doesn't work.
All the Hrivik negativity is a bit confusing. Sure he seemed a step behind on some plays but at other times he looked very good on the forecheck and winning puck battles along the boards or at times outright winning races to pucks in the O-zone and was actually quite solid in the D-zone. I can certainly see a future NHL’er. To say he was useless or anything of the sort is a bit off IMO.
Really liked Lomberg’s game. Can he keep it up over multiple games, weeks, months? A season at this level? If so, he’s certainly a gem worth keeper up with the Flames to allow him to continue to develop.
As for Mangiapane, You can see the skill but is the determination there? I question his ability to will his play on the opposition and be more a perimeter player at this point and he needs to play to continue to develop. Not sit on the fourth line with Matt Stajan..that guy is an albatross of offence.

I actually like what they are doing with him. He's small and he's not a Gaudreau or Kucherov. He's proven himself at the AHL level, the next step for him is to get a taste of the NHL in small sample sizes to get a feel for the size, pace and strength of the league. If he can handle and become accustomed to that, he will get his opportunities. He's at that point where he is audition ready, but more AHL time won't hurt him.
What I saw from Mangiapane was a guy who wasn't hurting the team, but he wasn't overly assertive and making things happen for himself. He kind of coasted a bit. Seems like a guy who still needs to get used to the NHL, the highest minute 4th line in the league seems like a decent place.
Other players you notice when watching that Tullola(sp) Mangiapane, Tkachuk, Pollock, Jankowski.
Glad to see 2 years later these guys are getting closer.
Wish things were different for Eetu. Several posters said he'd be mishandled by Constantine and he was.
Yeah, I could see it. Hopefully the Flames are able to properly upgrade the top 9, which would push Hathaway to the 4th line where I feel he is a better fit.
Lomberg and Hathaway would make great book ends for a solid high energy 4th line with grit and agitating qualities.
Lomberg - Lazar - Hathaway looks good to me as a 4th line next season, heck even for the rest of this season if I had my way.
