Canucks acquire Derrick Pouliot from the Penguins

Vancouver Canucks General Manager Jim Benning announced today that the Canucks have acquired defenceman Derrick Pouliot from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for defenceman Andrey Pedan and a fourth round selection in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft.
|
Like this trade for the Canucks. Pedan just cleared waivers. 4th round pick for a player of Pouliot's pedigree is a good gamble.

That seems like a good gamble for the Nucks.

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

Hardcore Nucks fans won't be happy with that. Pedan has played well IMO and has some promise of being a steady reliable guy on the backend.

Seems like a good trade for the Canucks. Though I haven't followed Pouliot's progression as of late.

Wasn't any room for Pouliot in Pittsburgh. Good gamble for the Canucks IMO. Could be a good 2nd PP guy.

His progression has been essentially non-existent. He has been unable to get himself into the top 8 of what isn't a great blueline. He's better than Pedan but I don't believe either are NHL players.

Sounds like this move will result in Patrick Wiercioch being placed on waivers.
27-year-old 6'5 left-shooting defenceman. He's big (but soft), he's an okay puck-mover, and he's prone to the odd error. But, in sheltered minutes he does good for his role.

Are you musing about Wiercioch as an option for the Flames #6? I don't believe he is an upgrade on the current options.

Hey, Jim, have you met Tyler Wotherspoon?
Still surprised they didn't grab Rattie when he was on waivers.
