The Penguin *** Series Spoilers ***
Let's discuss the Penguin!
There's so many shows I think people don't really start new threads on them anymore and discussion gets sort of buried into the mega threads or not happen at all for fear of spoilers. SO this 1st post is spoiler-free then it's on you. If you haven't watched it, find a way. It's not just "BATMAN!" or even at all. Just a great crime thriller.
Spoilers!

The Great:
- Basically everything. Overall the tone had enough people dying that it was conceivable main characters would bite it and that adds so much tension compared to a lot of "superhero" things that have no stakes.
- Farrell disappears and it's not just the make up. I tried to imagine him doing it without the makeup overhaul and his voice is just phenomenal. Would have been great without all the makeup too.
- Milioti scary and stunning. You could empathize with her too as she was done dirty, and in the end just wanted to leave but ends up in Arkham again anyways. Her wardrobe was awesome, I especially loved her canary yellow dress as she gassed the whole family.
- They did a great job of having Oz be sympathetic enough that you started to root for him, and just as you did, he did something even more scum baggy than the last and its a reminder that the show is about a villain. How he did Vic at the end was nail in the coffin.
- Enough can't be said about the make-up. The artist and their team will have work for the rest of their lives. It's incredible.
- Oh and the logo which I didn't notice until the last episode, with the little penguin nose on the G.
The Not So Great:
- Honestly can't think of anything. He didn't put on the hat at the end? Put on the hat!

It's definitely the best season of a show I've seen since Better Call Saul ended a couple years ago.
I agree with all you say up there. Two fantastic performances, and lots of really good ones.
What's next for the Penguin? Will there be a season 2, or will he be in the next Batman movie?
I've been tuned out of comic book movies and shows for a while, but this definitely has me buying in to whatever universe this becomes.

Lots of talk about Farrell and Milioti getting Emmy’s but I think the Mom should be in the running too, especially after the last couple episodes.
Just a fantastic season.

They made me want more of this Universe, even after I was already in after The Batman.
After a day to process the finale I'm glad they didn't make Oz redeemable. Was this the best executed villain origin story in the genre?

Yeah it's made me want to watch The Batman again for the first time since the theatre.
Too bad it's only for rent online.

That was the most enjoyable installment of any comic-book adaptation I can remember, including The Dark Knight. I basically forgot that it was set in the Batman cinematic universe.
My only minor complaint is that some of the plotlines seemed a little forced. For instance:
- They didn't think that she could possibly send a bomb into the tunnel. I get that they likely thought she wanted the drugs but the Penguin's crew seemed pretty unprepared for anything except for 1 scenario
- Oz had a gun to his head at least 3 times by people that wanted to kill him and he managed to wriggle out just in the nick of time. The scene where he ripped himself loose from the chair, stabbed the inept guard and then killed everyone in the room except for his two main antagonists was a little hard to swallow.

There was definitely quite a bit of dramatic choices over making sure everything made perfect sense. But the series was good enough it rarely took me out of it and didn’t ruin any episodes.
I loved the way it perfectly walked the line of comic book villainy and gritty crime drama. The penguin in that final scene showed he’s as crazy as the rest of him. The man is unhinged and a true villain.
Phenomenal. I thought it was better than the Batman, which I liked quite a bit.

GOAT!

The number of times this show convinced me to cheer him on, only to suddenly remind me this guy's literally a murdering, psychopathic villain... so good.

I wasn't impressed. Probably seeing the 95% RT score had my hopes up. Seemed to have the cheesy monologues and soap opera camera angles when people were talking which kinda felt over the top. I did like the non-conventional offing of Victor, as that wasn't seen coming, but a lot of it was just meh. Farrell doing his Tony Danza impression throughout, naa.

It's not really a superhero show. There are no superpowers of any kind. You do have to suspend disbelief somewhat as there elements of the show that certainly aren't realistic in any way, but it's far more of a crime drama than a superhero show.

I'd cross ethical lines for Sofia Gigante just like her psychiatrist did.

Just watched this all in one day. Man Harley Quinn should have been what Sofia Falcone was. Prob my favourite TV series after Better Call Saul and Band of Brothers.
Don't worry about Victor. they will resurrect him and turn him into Cyborg... lol
