Good but isn't burying him the better option?
Now trade Stajan to the Pens

Wow.
I guess Bouma gets a fresh start without an anchor cap hit for a 4th liner.

Big fan but his play fell off a cliff. Glad were opening a roster spot
Hopefully he gets a PTO and stays in the league, I'm just happy it's not with us

This one is stupid IMO.
The extra $500k cap space this year vs just burying him the minors isn't worth the $800k it's going to count on the cap for next year.
Between this and Murphy we already have $900k of dead cap space for next year now.

Frees up a contract spot. Maybe the Flames are gonna sign a bunch of prospects and UFAs. Difference in cap isn't significant either way.

Unless we sign a FA, would have been much better to bury him in the minors and bring him up if injuries hit. Seems odd to take the cap hit penalty next year.

I love Bouma the person and how fearless he was. There is no denying he was a very good warrior for the Flames. Backlund got him a big raise, and he unfortunately couldn't come close to meeting his contract since he signed it. Thought that the Flames would just ride out his contract, but I guess not. Gives Bouma time to find a taker in the NHL.
Wish him the best.

Surprised they bought him out. Would have thought it'd make more sense to bury him and get him off the books sooner.
Glad they're moving on though.

They clearly learned their lesson immediately, when in the next off-season didn't bother to qualify a 44 point 26 year old player in Colborne, and now this off season not qualifying Chiasson.
