Default Mitt Romney once tried to buy the entire NHL

Or at the very least, Romney's private equity firm, Bain Capital, attempted to. They submitted a bid to purchase the entire league during the 2005 lockout for $3.5 billion (over a billion less than the league was valued at).

I'd never heard of this before, it's an interesting read.

Side note, Bain Capital is the most transparently evil name for a company this side of Blackwater.

NBA teams selling for 2 billion and the NHL gets a 3.5 billion offer for the entire league. (Yes I know the difference between a team and league and the difference between 2005 and the year the Clippers sold)

How would that work? He would own part or all of every team?

Im guessing a restructure of the league under one entity rather than the franchise system it currently operates under.

The setup would have been similar to the then MLS structure. From what I understand, it's since been altered.

From what I recall, it was never seriously considered. Sports franchise ownership is still a vanity thing. A toy.
