Default Lindy Ruff will not return as Head Coach of the Dallas Stars

News Update

Lindy Ruff will not return as head coach for the 2017-18 season.

Not really shocking news. The Stars are moving on from Lindy Ruff after an underwhelming season. Ruff's contract expired at the end of this season.

The first of a few post season coaching changes. I wonder how secure Jim Nil is? Better find themselves a goalie this off season.

I would imagine the Las Vegas team will kick the tires.

I doubt Ruff is unemployed for long.

Another victim of a bad GM putting a mediocre team together. Guy won't be without a job for long I imagine.

He lasted a lot of years in Buffalo...I wonder if Winnipeg asks if he's willing to try another small city that no one likes.

Quite a few experienced coaches to choose from for these teams:

Ken Hitchcock...IF he doesn't retire.
Gerard Gallant
Bob Hartley
Jack Capuano....I guess...

Plus, there's a few assistants and minor league coaches that have been looking for their chance at an NHL job.

There's a few coaches that are currently on interim status that might be replaced at the start of next season:

Tom Rowe (definitely)
Bruce Cassidy (very unlikely)
Doug Weight (somewhat unlikely)

...and how the hell does Bednar still have a job in Colorado? I wonder if they announce his firing on garbage bag day.

Should be an interesting off-season for some of these coaching positions.

Can't really help when Benn and Seguin decide to not play defence and check out for half the season.

Benn went from one of the most underrated to the most over rated. And it's no wonder Boston didn't care about losing Seguin.

Wonder if Kevin Dineen would ever be given a shot again.

I wonder if Sutter will have a job for long after tonight.

My guess is that he will get laid-off before next season. L.A missed the play-offs 2 of the last 3 years while only winning one playoff game last year.

Unless Babcock or Quenneville get fired (they obviously won't) literally any other coach would be a significant downgrade. So I really hope they do fire him.

Possible but doubtful.

If they do fire him they have to cut a cheque for 5 million bucks to him. If they fire him next year its a 2 million dollar adios.

Lombardi may be the guy on the hotseat more than Sutter. He has really made some questionable decisions with contracts all while not addressing the obvious change in the way the game is being played right now.

I think Ruff could land in Vancouver if they don't promote from within after they fire Willie D.

They would be dumb to fire Willie D. He's the only reason they aren't near Colorado in the standings.

I think in that situation Vancouver fires Willie and hires Sutter.

No chance Sutter goes to a rebuilding program at this point. He'll have a list of clubs after him if he's available.

If Sutter gets fired, I would think Dallas wI'll court him pretty hard.

Ruff was the guy I had hoped the Flames would get had he been available back in January. I think Ruff is a great coach.
I wonder if Winnipeg will give him a call.

If Washington doesn’t get it done this year and Sutter is let go, Sutter to Washington would make sense. See if he can get another underachieving team over the hump.
