Flames Flames recall Gillies on emergency basis. May start 1 of last 2. Lazar will draw in.

Calgary Flames @NHLFlames
The #Flames have recalled goaltender Jon Gillies from the @AHLHeat under emergency conditions.

Peter Loubardias @fan960lou
Look for John Gillies to play one of the last two games. Curtis Lazar will draw in

Would be first NHL action for Gillies.

Sweet. You would think the Flames would want to develop Gillies considering both of their NHL goalies have expiring contracts

Great news as it's a great time for him to get his first start out of the way. Would be a nice indicator of how much more seasoning he needs in the AHL or if he's close to being ready to be an NHL backup.

Who else sits?

Assuming Tkachuk. No need for any more shenanigans. Hope it's a boring game with good fundamentals haha

I'd like to see Gillies, Lazar and Rasmus play.

Yup. They have three recalls available, and I'd like to see Janko, Eat Bread and Kylington get into the last two games, with Gillies starting both.

No Johnny, no Tkachuk. If Monahan or Backs want the day off, I say give it to them. The team has played a crapton of hockey this month, and if last night is any indication, our top players need a bit of a breather.

Gillies in the cage, kids throughout the lineup. Go

Have to think its pretty much a guarantee we see Gillies, Lazar, Andersson, Wideman & F.Hamilton in the lineup.

Who needs the most rest or has injuries that need more time?

Stone, D.Hamilton, & Tkachuk stand out to me. Then maybe one of Gaudreau or Brouwer.

I definitely see Gaudreau getting some rest. His hand issue is likely still bothering him. Plus the team doesn't want to risk another injury.

If Gillies has more than 1 goal scored against him can we not throw him under the bus straight away, which always seems to be the preffered option with prospects that don't set the world on fire in their first game.

Agreed. Not need to play those guys in this one, especially if the Kings decide to flip on the dirtbag button and start running guys. We need to head into the playoffs as healthy as possible.

Loubardias speculated those 3 + Freddie Hamilton will likely play.

Thought Tkachuk should and will sit vs the Kings.

He's a goalie prospect. And a Flames goalie prospect at that. So I gave up on him the moment he was drafted.

For me, just getting into an NHL game puts him way above my expectations.

Shutout or he can go on waivers. I don't even care that his contract precludes it - put him on anyway! Failure will not be tolerated.

If we still have 3 recalls just use them now and call up 2F and a D to play along with the extra's already up... Have Johnny, Monahan, Backlund, Gio, Dougie, Brodie, Elliott, and Tkachuk rested and healthy for Game 1.

I'm happy that it's gillies, but I would prefer him develop in the AHL playoff fight, and have Rittich, who's been the better goalie this season, up in the NHL as he's older who want have as many chances to make the NHL, while Gillies can gain experience in a playoff race as a starting goaltender with Stockton.

Thought we only had 2 recalls left? Rasmus and Hathaway were used as regular recalls if I remember correctly.

Hathaway was emergency for Tkachuks suspension. Andersson turned into a full time call up.

The Flames still had 12 healthy forwards with Lazar and Freddie Hamilton replacing the quarantined Ferland and suspended Tkachuk. When Hathaway was called up he was the 13th forward which implies he was a regular call up.
