Default Who plays Centre on our bottom 6 next season?

I've been thinking about this a little bit lately, my thoughts are Bennett will continue to develop as the number 3C. *If* we lose Stajan to Vegas; who starts the year as our 4C? My thought would be Jankowski, although I'm not sure if the 4th line is the right spot for him. I think Lazar will be used as a winger to start off with... However, it is entirely possible that Bennett is moved to the wing ( I feel this is unlikely because management has said they want him to develop as a 2 way centre), in which case I'd like to see Jankowski centre the 3rd line and Lazar centre the 4th... Thoughts?

(Apologies if this has been discussed in another thread)

Gaudreau - Monahan - Ferland
Jankowski - Backlund - Frolik
Tkachuk - Bennett - Lazar
Bouma - Stajan - Brouwer

That's how I'd do it. Assuming Lazar earns it of course. Klimchuk and Shinkaruk will be pushing for that spot as well.

If Stajan is gone I still wouldn't want Jankowski there. May as well try Lazar and bring up the aforementioned Klimchuk/Shinkaruk

Agree - Lazar should be a good candidate for the 4C slot.

Went with Jankowski as the question suggested Stajan was gone to Vegas. If Stajan stays, I could see Jankowski start on someone's wing.

Stajan is a UFA. He won't really be "lost". He can sign with Vegas or anywhere.

Lazar needs to earn a spot, but, like Bennett, he can play both positions. I'd therefore see if I could use him with Bennett and they could switch positions if need be. You could add Jankowski to that line and see what happens.

Stajan isn't a UFA until the end of next season.

Stajan is signed for one more season. It seems like that contract was signed ages ago.

My bad, I thought he was off the books this year. I don't think Vegas takes him. He would be good there, but for some reason I don't see it.

Jankowski or Bennett #3. I think they will swap back and forth on Centre-LW and Stajan as the #4.

Brian Boyle.

That's what the Flames need. A big physical centreman.

This is Stajan's second contract, but he's been around forever.

I hope Vegas takes him, but it's not likely.

Stajan for one more year is infinitely better than Brouwer for 3 more.

Stajan is way more than ok in my books. In the last three calendar years, he has:

- Lost a son, and played through his devastation showing sanding emotion
- Scored an awesome penalty shot goal against the Oilers soon after
- Scored the series-clincher against Vancouver
- Scored the playoff-clincher against San Jose

I'd love him on the fourth line again next year. He's the ultimate vet

I'm more interested/wary in how our centre depth would look on the ice without Stajan for another year.

Sure he's not the sexiest name compared to Monahan/Backlund/Bennett/Jankowski, but I think his importance is severely underrated around here. He's a calm veteran who you can put out there in any zone and he's 2nd on the team in faceoff percentage behind only Monahan.

I'd like to see our young centres improve their faceoff numbers before I see Stajan depart.

I like Stajan too, and I hope Vegas doesn't take him... If Brouwer truly is Mr. April for this team it could possibly complicate which forwards we protect... although I'm sure Treliving has plans for that, maybe some side deals in place. In any case, if Stajan stays, Jankowski will likely play wing on the 3rd line, possibly switching over to center for stretches depending on Bennett's year... tough to say.
