Default Flames assign Andersson and Rittich to Stockton. UPD: Flames recall Gillies

Calgary Flames @NHLFlames
The #Flames have assigned Rasmus Andersson and David Rittich to the @AHLHeat.

Makes sense considering Stockton needs to clinch a playoff spot.

Not sure if it means anything with regards to Johnson's health. May recall Gillies or Rittich again.

Now the regular season is over, there are unlimited regular recalls as long as not more than 3 players on the roster who are on a regular recall (or when Stockton's season and playoffs are done and then they can have as many players on the roster as they like).

News Update

Calgary Flames @NHLFlames
The #Flames have recalled goaltender Jon Gillies from the @AHLHeat on an emergency basis.

Much more confident in our offence depth, the D still kind of scares me.

Strange that they didn't keep Rittich up for practice. Maybe it means Johnson is ok?

Why? That top four lines up with most in the league, and I think Engelland is extremely valuable as a third pairing D.

I meant in the case of injuries to the top 4.

our top 3 is probably the best top 3 in the league next to nashville. our bottom 3 has been a problem all season. stone has been a trooper as a filler top 4, but still not ideal. engelland is serviceable and brings 'intangibles' but needs to be in the right situation, and bartkowski is definitely not the right situation for him.

Our top 3 are awesome, but their are plenty of teams with a strong top 3, and you can't have a conversation about the best without including Keith/Seabrook/Hjalmersson.

EDIT: Also, the best D core in the entire league from top to bottom has to be Columbus.

Jones/Savard/Johnson/Werenski/Murray is an embarrassment of riches.

No doubt, the health and depth are there. We just need our top players to play well. That combined with solid goaltending and it doesn't matter who the Flanes play in the first round.

the Flames players have the day off, and the Heat have an afternoon game today in San Jose then don't play again until Wednesday. Makes sense to have the two players available for the Heat then recalled tomorrow if needed

Heat just announced they have signed Joel Rumpel to a PTO, which means they now have 4 goaltenders on the Heat:

Gillies
Rittich
McDonald
Rumpel

Think that might be a sign Johnson is going to be out a for a while and likely one of Gillies or Rittich will be recalled after tonight.

I've sort of lost confidence in Johnson in his recent starts, so I'm not terribly concerned about this. Also like Gillies' pedigree.

Johnson apparently "day to day"

John Shannon @JSportsnet
With Chad Johnson day to day, Flames recall Jon Gillies as precautionary measure.

And as awesome as Johnson's run was back in November I have little faith in him if Elliott is injured anyways.
