Default Matthew tkachuck responds

Calgary Flames forward Matthew Tkachuk called out Los Angeles Kings defenceman Drew Doughty for calling him out.
“I expected more from him, honestly, than to go right to the media and start complaining after a loss,” Tkachuk told Postmedia. “But he’s a good player. He’s a good enough player where he doesn’t have to worry about any of that stuff.”

Love this kid. Even though he was wrong with the elbow he sure knows how to stir the pot.

Haha, Doughty is gonna be one surly bastard tonight. This should be a fun game.

Here's the article where the comments appeared, with a few more quotes.

http://www.tsn.ca/tkachuk-on-doughty...m-him-1.709271

Quote:
The 19-year-old rookie insisted the comments by Doughty didn’t bother him, though.

“It has no effect on me what (Doughty) says or anybody on their team says,” Tkachuk added to the Sun. “If it was a pretty dirty play… I mean, nobody really did anything about it and nobody on our end really thought it was that bad. But that’s in the past. Tomorrow, it’s just another game and hopefully another game closer to playoffs.”

Flames head coach Glen Gulutzan noted Tuesday that Tkachuk will likely be a marked man by the Kings, who are fighting to stave off elimination from the playoff race.

“We’ll talk to him. We know that there will be a little of a bull's-eye probably on Matty,” Gulutzan said, per the Sun. “And not in a malicious way. Just that, hey, they probably won’t like what happened and they’re going to play him a little extra hard and he’s going to have to be prepared for that. But we’ll be prepared too. We won’t let anything get out of hand.

“They’re going to remember, like any big hit or anything. It’ll be a tougher trench match for Matty than probably other games, but that’s what happens. That’s part of it.”

I love how he seems to piss off the most experiences and high profile defenseman. "Status" seems to have no effect on the guy, the better you are the harder Tkachuk is going to play you.

What's Drew going to do? Fight and get punched in the faced repeatedly?

For such a chirpy guy he sure doesn't back it up.

I hope Iginla does try to act like a hero tonight by fighting Tkachuk. I also hope Matthew tunes him if he tries anything.

Iggy may be older but he can still throw'em. I hope he doesn't go after Tkachuk.

That would be a pretty weak way of playing your last game at the dome. He should get boos if he does. If he fights Gio then it's a different story. I would like to see how Ferland would do against him but I doubt that is going to happen. Guys are scared to fight Ferland. One punch and your eye socket could be shattered.

Maybe it's just me, but I always hate when someone says "player x whined to the media''. As much as I love Tkachuk, surely he doesn't think that Doughty went out seeking a reporter to ensure a whiny story was written? What if now Doughty comes back and says Tkachuk went out and whined to the media?

Players have mics shoved in their faces every day and questions are asked in a specific way so that the response generates discussion and articles. No player/coach/GM/owner actively seeks out anyone from the media to whine to them about anything.

Having said that, Tkachuk knows exactly what he is doing, which is stirring the pot. I love the kid. Not only is he a pest on the ice. But he's becoming an all around pest by saying comments like this off the ice.

He's going to be great when he has a microphone in his face during the playoffs.

Doughty needs to realize Tkachuck has been in the NHL longer than him

Weak? Did you watch Iginla?

I could see the guy doing it just to prove a point.

It's nice that the Flames are big and tough enough to not get thrown off their game if the Kings get chippy. Tkachuk will definitely have to stand up for himself, but there are lots of Flames who can drop the gloves if need be.

That's exactly what I was picturing on my way into the office this morning. Facing off against Tkachuk is exactly the kind of thing Iginla has always stepped up to do, and is a large part of why people all over the hockey world love him.

You know what this kid does?
Everything !!!

When was the last time he didn't back up whatever he has said ?

Have the flames ever had a guy like this on the roster?

So awesome coming from him this early in his career.

Props to Keith for bringing him up right around hockey.

I might be tempted to slap a " C " on this kid if it doesn't go to Monahan in the near future.

I have such a man crush on this kid and the way he draws his teammates into games to compete every. single. night.

The only other time I recall a player being able to help this team like this
Is McGratton when he prevented anything further from happening after Hartleys line brawl.

That could have gotten ugly in the hall outside the dressing room but it didn't .
