Interesting. They forgot to mention the goal tending situation though. It's been inconsistant to say the least.

IMO, before we try to fix the goalie situation (again), I'd like to see how we look once our defense is strengthened. Right now, it seems as though goalies have a difficult time finding success with this team, which leads me to wonder if maybe it's because we have some glaring weaknesses on defense.

I wouldn't mind the Flames doing a little selling and a little buying. I do think they should steer clear of a long term number 4 D due to expansion but I do think they should be looking st adding up front. Right now I see the Flames with only 5 forwards they need to protect. I can see them still believing and holding o to Ferland but Brouwer should definitely be exposed.

If the Flames could flip their rentals for picks and then put some assets together to upgrade up front for a final push I would be more than okay with that. Lean extra heavy on the big 3 D and add long term pieces while getting assets for rentals.

Engellend for a 2nd
Versteeg for a 3rd
Wideman for a 6th
Elliott or Johnson for a 2nd or 3rd

Then move a combination of assets to upgrade up front and in net. I know the cost would be crazy but Tampa has a forward and Bishop on the block

Sell it all. Any pending UFA if you can get something for them take it.

Unless you have eyes on a deep playoff run there is little point in being a buyer with the expansion draft looming.

For the love of God just sell. The number of and severity of the holes on this roster far outweigh the number of assets.

You could get a goalie though. No expansion draft risk there.

Depends who they want to protect and who they can afford to pay. Both Drouin (highly unlikely) and Johnson need new contracts. They have to protect Stamkos, Callahan, and Filpula per the expansion rules. With 4 other spots they have Kucherov, Palat, Drouin, Killorn, and Johnson.

They might just buyout Filpula but if they can't afford to keep Johnson I could see him on the block

Yeah but I don't think the trade deadline is the time to address that.

Wideman remains about as "serviceable" as some of those Farmer Jonez wrecks back in the day.

Trade Johnny boom there I said it.

Frankly I'm joking.

But the guys that we want to sell have little value with the exception of Engelland who I think would bring back a nice return for a playoff team looking for blueline depth.

If the Flames could dump Wideman then take the risk that Bishop would be better here they could maybe pull off an Elliott/Johnson + 2nd/prospect for Bishop?

Flames spend an asset but potentially find a long term solution in net. If Bishop plays well perhaps that is all the Flames need to get in?

Have the Flames played Eng with Brodie? Is that not a free fix for the 2nd pairing?

Interesting point about McPhee having a history with Brouwer. I had thought it unlikely the Flames would expose him for the expansion draft (or that he'd be taken), but now I'm starting to wonder.

Personally i would not be surprised if the Flames stand pat at this deadline and make zero moves.
