I guess this is bad as the newsgroups, you look for a new person to attack and everyone jumps in. Guess my ideas my opinions are not of use to the hockey gods out there. Maybe you should be coaching the flames then.

Seems when I post someone has to find something to reply to what I say and then its all on the bandwagon.. I shoulda have stayed lurking and not made an account.

Have fun

You started 8 threads today (that's bad), had some helpful tips and encouragement on proper etiquette from members on why that was bad but didn't bother to change your ways.

Newcomers are always welcome here, and we give them leeway but after today perhaps you should lurk a bit more until you see how to contribute to an Internet forum in a way that doesn't start World War 3.

See Yuh.

Did you have opinions? Or just questions?

2) Picking u Rico Fata
3) How dominant the Oliwa, Mhyrnes (sp), Weimer line is gonna be.

Damn it, I suppose now i'll just have to read threads that are 3 months old to get news like that.

Wow, being a bit overdramatic aren't we? At one time or another, we've all been new here, but what you have to understand is, all message boards have a certain etiquette and board culture you have to be aware of. Sorry to say, and like it or not, you will always encounter this from all msg boards...so you need to learn that before you start posting.

I dunno if that was just sarcasm from a thing he said to you in the past, but Oliwa is on the Devils now...

Yeah in general there were two types of responses to you dude:

1. People trying to give you some advice in a generally friendly manner
2. People that disagreed with your points (e.g. me disputing your claim "it was in").

One of the things that people like about this board is that opinions are challenged and that disagreement is encouraged. Its not personal so don't take it that way.

So much for the rules indeed. Perhaps you didn't read the rule about not starting redundant threads.

Rules aside, though, it's always been considered a good practice when joining a new forum to lurk for awhile and get a general feel of the type of posts that are being made before jumping in the conversation. And it's never a good idea for a new member to start so many threads right away. People didn't dogpile on you because they don't like you; you got jumped on because you weren't following proper forum etiquette, starting redundant threads, and weren't making informed posts.

I suggest you spend a few weeks lurking, reading what others here post, and maybe make some contributions to existing threads. Starting so many new threads -- especially about news that's been known for weeks or months -- is pretty bad form, and I'm not surprised at all by the reaction you received.

But stick around. Once you get a feel for this place and learn to make intelligent and informed posts, you'll find it's the single best forum for hockey news and opinions on the web.

Do you always walk into a room full of strangers and start screaming at the top of your lungs?

No one says you have to "conform" but a slower entry pace while people check you out might take you further in making friends.

just some advice from my viewpoint:

I'm not from Calgary I've spend a total of less than a week in the city my entire life. So I definately don't have the came background as the majority of posters here.

I'm from the East Coast, again politically a completely different background

I'm surrounded by Habs and Leafs fans, I've been surrounded by Habs fans my entire life, been surrounded by Leafs fans techincally all my life, but I didn't know there were so many of them until about '93. There are no Flames fans here, I'm the only one.

When I first came to this board it was big, lots of posters, but it didn't take me long (maybe a day or two of lurking) to see who the top posters were, who's advice and opinions to respect (even if I disagree with) and which threads to not read, which ones interest me.

In the begining I litterally read every thread (not saying evey post but every thread). The only new posts I made were on a Flames prospect that was playing in my hometown. I'd try and answer questions on his progress as well as junior hockey in general with reagards to the QMJHL. As you can probably tell it's the inspiration of my handle.

I have rarely made a douplicate thread, infact I try my hardest to avoid them, often times looking back over 3 pages to ensure that what I want to talk about or find information on hasn't been already discussed.

I must admit I hate the "search" feature. I think it's great, I just don't like using it on forums and don't know why. Hence me sifting through pages despite the fact it's longer.

If it's old news, like you didn't realize a player was traded away, or came here - don't make a thread about it, it's already been discussed at length. If you want to know who our favourite players are, your best bet is to read, get a feel for the posters and see who they refer to often, as well as on the side where they're from might be an indication (ie: my favourite Flame of all time is Al MacInnis, any suprise seeing as how I'm from Sydney NS a mere 40mins - an hour from Al's hometown?). Most people don't really like those threads on the main forum as they don't really bring any contribution to the discussion overall.

As said before, people here don't hate you because you're new, they hate you because you're acting like a noob. The best way to go about these boards is to read a bit, take your time, and reply where you think is appropriate, after a while start making threads. I've had some threads that have had like 2 replies in them, man you feel like dirt as well it's like you're not good enough. I've had others go on for pages, again a great feeling as people are acknowleging your contribution, often in a positive way.

If people disagree with you, it doesn't mean they don't like you it means... they disagree with you. For example, short of showing me a video that you somehow have but no one else on earth has managed to find that CLEARLY shows the puck cross the line, you'll never convince me that the puck crossed the line in Game 6 of the SCF. NOTHING. I was in the building (flew out from the East Coast for the game) saw it happen, and actually think if it was in they'd call it back due to how Gelinas was stopping he made a distinct kicking motion (not intentionally mind you) thus no goal (mind you those skate rules have a tendancy to be overlooked in the SCF *cough*Hull*cough*

Don't take people not liking you personally, pick your battles as remember you're not only choose the hill you want to fight on, you're choosing the hill you're willing to die on.

Why does everyone think that board WANTS those people? They get enough brutal posters as it is because the official site is the easiest to find, but there are some good posters on that board. You don't want 'em here, fine, but why keep sending more their way?

"Where does the school board find them, and why do they keep sending them to me?"

I'm primarily not a Flames fan and I think I got things pretty much figured out. At least I haven't been banned yet. :P

I'm with you on this one. I think Hamr is a joke and is just playing us. The earlier he leaves, the better
