Ideally Gillies takes the next step next year and can be a 1A/1B guy. Maybe splits the net with Johnson and then takes another step the year after and becomes our starter.
Of course that's not the safest route to take. Not opposed to signing Bishop either. But I really am hoping Gillies can be in the NHL next year in some capacity.

Is Broissoit available
^ Expecting Gillies to come in and be a #1 in the NHL is crazy. Hasn't even been that good in the A and had surgery this year.

Would be nice for a goaltender to rise out of the system but I don't know if there's one ready yet. I'm kind of scared about bringing in a highly paid goaltender for a term because goaltenders not named Kipper seem to stink when they suit up for this organization.

I think Gillies should stay in AHL, than be a backup in the NHL. If he is able to assume a big role with the Flames than yes bring him up, if not than let him develop in the AHL.

With an improved D and a better system, I think Bishop could do well here.

Not at the money he will command in free agency. I just think it's too big a risk after seeing most goaltenders flop when coming to this team.

If we can get him at $5.5 mill than it should be ok, but more than that, I would say no.

For next season:
MAF + Gillies in the NHL
Rittich + Parsons in the AHL
MAF should be available for a reasonable price given the expansion draft, and would also be a great mentor for a guy like Gillies.

I actually don't think he will command a huge dollar amount in the offseason. Not many teams need goalies so that should bring his value down. I was scared that the flames were going to snag him last offseason as I think he would do wonders for your team.

I think you really have to look long and hard at the people surrounding the goalies before you go and spend 6+ million on one. No goalie (recently) has ever gotten better the longer he stayed with the Flames. At this point I don't think it's just bad luck.
That being said, I think Petr Mrazek is slightly falling out of favor in Detroit and I think that he is still a stud and will absolutely be a top 5 goalie for a long time. I wouldn't even mind dangling a top prospect for him (since the Flames just bungle those anyways) and maybe some picks. Detroit needs to pick between Howard and Mrazek for expansion and with the way both have played this year it's going to be real hard for Ken Holland to make the right choice.

MAF is worse than Elliott. Are we aiming for the 1st overall pick next year?

MAF isn't that good anymore. Only way I'd consider him is on a cheap deal after the Pens buy him out

Not interested in giving up the assets to acquire an established, proven guy like Bishop or eating up the cap space necessary to get one.
Would prefer adequate placeholders until the team can promote Rittich or Gillies from within.

I certainly wouldn't mind him being in the mix for the backup position next season. I wonder if he's going to want a one way deal next season or if he will accept another two way deal?

How about Ryan Miller. He wants to stay in the west and the Canucks may not re-sign him.

I don't think he's going to be much of an upgrade over the two guys we already have.

I don't think it matters who we get as a goaltender if there isn't a change made with the goalie coach. Has any goalie come into this organization and improved under the coaching of Sigalet? I don't think so. If anything they seem to regress. And I do not want to see Bishop brought in. I don't get the hype with this guy.
