not sure how many Dal students there are here, but since I had such a hard time with this I thought I'd share.

If you're opting out of the Dalhousie Students' Union (DSU) Health Plan, you have to go to the DSU website www.DSU.com and go to "Our Services" then "Health Plan" scroll down to the opt-out link.

Then here's the tricky part. You have to pass an 8 question True/False test. Sounds easy enough, hell they even give you the information needed and tell you to print it off.

Only here's the thing, there's misinformation in the three pages supplied. I'm sure it's not intentional but it's there none-the-less. If you use what the info give you - you won't pass the test.

So

There are the answers

1 - True
2 - False
3 - False
4 - True
5 - True
6 - True
7 - False
8 - True

The ambluance question along with the vaccination questions have the most misinformation. The example provided to the ambulance question works out to be true in that case, but I guess not all cases. As well in one part it says all vaccainations are covered, and in another it says only 80% are. Again, confusing, they've been getting alot of flack over the test just thought I'd share the answers as without Trial and Error, or the inability to do basic math, you won't get the test right.

That reminds me that I have to opt out of the UofC plan.
It's quite the pain in that ass here. You have to fill out a form, drop it off somewhere and bring proof of alternate coverage. I wish I could just do it over the net.

that's what I went in prepared to do, alas they gave me this slip telling me how to do it online.

Fortuantely I know one of the DSU execs and she got me the answers, I ranted about misinformation, told her I knew it wasn't her fault, and that I loved her for getting me the answers, the proposed (shot down again ;_ hahahaha

the form thing is much easier than THIS process, but overall the net should be easier

Masters in what?

I'm also doing my masters, hence my inability to pass a simple 8 question T/F test, hahaha.

Public Admin, my bro's going into social work.

Make sure to check out a few Mooseheads games (and make certain you cheer against them, especially if Cape Breton's in town - I'll be at all those). And of course, if you're opting out of the health plan, follow the above instructions, hahaha.

I don't get it? You have to take a test to opt out of an insurance plan? Doesn't that sound illegal?

it says you can go into the office for further assistance, so I'm assuming that you can do that as well. The point of the test is to make sure you understand what you're opting out of. But they aren't clear on the parameters they give you.

If I didn't know better I'd say the guys that designed it are in my program, as it's complicated and lots of red tape, hahaha.

You don't have to opt out of the health program every year at u of c do you? I did it the first year and it has never showed up on my fees statement since. Please don't tell me that it's built in to the general fees somehow and I have been paying for it.

You only have to opt out once.
I payed for it all of last year, before realizing that it was even there. That was waste of coin.
