Nice write up. One comment.

So the team let in two (2) goals. Did Gio have to be identified on one as "flat footed"?

Realistically, teams, even the best ones, allow goals and Byfuglien can make an awesome play without having to blame a Flame, no?

But he was caught "flat footed" on that goal. It'd be disingenuous not to explain what lead to the goal against.

IMO he was being generous. After seeing the replay again this morning identifying him as a "pylon" on that play is probably more apt.

His read was just late.

He was getting in position, and then realized that Bufyglien wasn't going to shoot it in or pass it and that he was screwed because the freight train was going to go right past him.

Happens though

"I’ll keep saying this until I’m blue in the fact but this team really needs a young defenseman to surprise and move up the roster into the 5th spot. Probably asking too much for that to happen this season, but next season with expected departures by at least two bottom half defenseman, it won’t be enough to just add another young guy as a 7. Denis Wideman hasn’t been bad this season, but he shouldn’t be a four. And the team just doesn’t have a five strong enough to carry what the club walks out as a 6. Their leaking chances nightly …"

I really agree with this. It has been a while since a farm team player emerged and grabbed a spot and Flames need this on the back end right now.

The trade cost on defencemen is high but I suspect Treliving is looking at this hard. Maybe even at the deadline, if there is someone available with term on their contract. The price for Hamilton was high and he hasn't always looked great, but the d corps would be a huge red flag without him.

Gio was flatfooted on Buff's goal but you have to credit the big guy for a nice finish on that play.

at 23 he has been our best d man I can't see any of our top 3 going especially Hamilton

I worded that poorly. Meant we'd be screwed if Treliving hadn't acquired him seeing as how no other defensemen have emerged yet from the system.
