Where I live there are lost-dog Facebook groups. So you have one of those? Good luck.

The odds are that someone took the dog in because of the cold. Most people will contact the Humane Society to help return the dog to his owner.

YYC Pet recovery is the best page for success. Also, it sounds like he is a rescue dog, so be sure to contact the rescue as well. They can post it and if they micro-chipped him, they may still be listed as a contact address in addition to your family. Good Luck! Hopefully someone found him and took him in out of the cold.
If he is fearful, you might also want to talk to your neighbours and ask them to check under decks, etc. as he might be hiding.
I would leave the gate to your yard open, so if he's wandering he can come home.

This hasnt happened to us yet, but the last time I took our dog to the vet they gave him a tag for his collar with a QR barcode which will tell anyone where he lives.
Handy and free!
