Default South Africa!

Hey team,

I am headed down outh Africa for a double set of weddings approx. Mar 27- April 11.

The weddings will take some time but I want I'll have a lot of time free time in and around Cape Town.

Never been. Never researched.

Wondering the best route To take and can't miss things in that area.

Any help would be awesome!

I've never been to South Africa but I still recall being stunned by a BBC article a while back. I remember thinking that self reported admissions of crime must be sandbagged (kinda like asking people if they stole from convenience stores as a kid - I'm sure that some did but would lie about it).

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/8107039.stm

One in four South African men questioned in a survey said they had raped someone, and nearly half of them admitted more than one attack.

Almost half who said they had carried out a rape admitted they had done so more than once.

"We know that we have a higher prevalence of rape in South Africa than there is in other countries."

Coincidentally, my family and I will be in Cape Town at the exact same time. We've been looking up different things online. I found this decent guide yesterday, check it and related articles out:

We are making a list of must-sees and it includes:

Table Mountain
Robben Island
Boulders Beach
Cape Point
V&A Waterfront
Hiking Signal Hill
Chapman's Peak Drive
Winery tour (not sure which one yet)

There are some good Cape Town tourism videos on YouTube, and I gave my wife this book for Christmas to keep with us:

Top 10 Cape Town & The Winelands

If you're in Johannesburg the Apartheid Museum is pretty intense.

Also, don't go to Johannesburg.

Whatever you do don't get arrested because the gangs play this weird ass numbers game to determine where you slot in and it's confusing as hell and will probably result in your death.

Ha, I don't believe one exists. I have a lot of extended family in Cape Town; I have deliberately not told them I'm going yet because I know they're going to dominate my time and feed me endlessly. But definitely reach out if you have any questions while there. If I don't know, someone close by to me will.

Camps Bay is the cool and trendy beachfront place, with one hell of a beach. It's worth spending a bit of time there.

Also - chili bites are better than Biltong. Just sayin. Also - CBSA says neither can be brought back.
