He was supposedly tired of saying things somewhat off the cuff and having them explode on him.

I really like Freidman. I think his intel is as good as anyone's including Mackenzie, and he seems genuinely nice and interested in the Flames.

He must have realized that no matter what radio station or TV station he goes on it will be put out on the internet.

I think he realized less people were talking about him which isn't a good thing in the business he's in.

We'd have a weekly thread on here with what he says on the radio with thousands upon thousands of views and interesting discussion. I haven't heard his name around here in a while.

He's one of the best in the business.

Agreed I looked forward to his segments on the FAN second only to interviews with Treliving/Burke/Conroy. When he stopped doing radio hits here he cited that he always took heat because things he said on Calgary radio would be spun out of context. That is partially his style of just "shooting the $hit" with Boomer. I recall when he contemplated perhaps the Pens would trade Malkin it blew up. He still goes on the radio in Toronto and other places and gives interviews and a lot of what he said there is transcrived and out online. Glad he is back on the Fan

The only good people on Sportsnet in all of Canada for insight, intelligence and good information for my money are Stephen Brunt and Elliot Friedmann

Personally not a huge fant of Brunt but that is only because of the sports they discuss with him. Not a MLB, CFL, boxing, or fishing fan. I do enjoy when he talks hockey but I find that to be rare

I love Friedman as well, but I wonder if he decided to stand by a principle and then realized he was only hurting himself and gave up.

You go on radio to be heard.
You want people to react.

But you don't want people to repeat what you say and potentially get it out of context?

Seems like he was chasing a rainbow on that one.

Probably a bit of that and the fact that he realizes every other hockey insider is doing multiple radio hits and a podcast now a days. Look at Bobby Mac, he's on multiple TSN radio stations weekly and does a bi-weekly podcast and isn't overly afraid of speculating when appropriate.
