Default Christmas Gifts for Children

I thought I would rely on the collective braintrust of the people here and ask for assistance in selecting a gift for a couple of children I know. I work as a nurse in a major hospital and one of their parents is in a very bad way (think non-responsive bad) and this will be their first Christmas since the accident. I get along great with the family and the two kids whose life has been turned upside down so I thought I would try and make the day a little bit easier on them by having a surprise Santa gift for them when they visited the hospital on Christmas day. The problem though is I don't have any kids of my own and I have no idea what 4-7 year old kids like. I have a couple giant packs of markers and a colouring book, but I was looking for some suggestions for gifts that some people here may have.

Thanks.

MMM

The popular toys amongst 4-5 year olds seems to be Paw Patrol this year. Markers and colouring books are good for that full range. Lego for the 6-7 age range. Puzzles, crafts, educational books.

Edit: PJ Masks and Lion Guard are also popular with the 4-5 year old crowd. My Little Pony, Barbies and Star Wars, depending on the kids' interests.

My kids:

Boy (7):
remote control car
Vetch kidizoom camera
Lego
Skates

Girl (5)
Barbie van
Doll carriage
Paw patrol blanket
Skates

Both:
Pie in the face game
Beanboozeled - this is a must get family game!

We just asked them. It was pretty simple, although most kids want everything, they always have their favorites.

Definitely Lego. I work with kids and that's something that is a hit with just about everyone.

I also have a 7 year old boy and a 5 year old girl. He loves dinosaurs, Jurrassic anything and Godzilla. She loves animals and dolls.

This is a nice thing you are doing.

3-5 year old boys are generally obsessed with Paw Patrol. Not sure if girls are as much (probably?). Paw Patrol is insanely popular.

I don't have Lego kids, as much as I have tried to encourage them because I like Lego. Haha. Are the kids into arts and crafts at all? Science-y stuff? Indigo has lots of good options for those types of gifts. Also tons of Lego and of course Paw Patrol.

Mastermind toys also has lots of good stuff and has it all laid out by age.

No suggestions for you, but I hope that Santa has a special gift for you as you are going above and beyond here

So I was able to get some Lego, and a day away from the hospital gift with a couple movie passes for them and their mom in a Troll gift package with a colouring book, a couple dolls, stickers and the like. After that I had some passes for a pool in the city. I figure that the thing they may need the most is an opportunity to be children for a day and just have an opportunity to be away.

Thanks for the suggestions.

You can't go wrong with Littlest Petshop and Shopkins for girls that age.
