Default 10 lies that all NHL fans tell themselves

This was pretty good. Definitely relevant for us as well heh (see refs, returning stars, new arenas etc)

I could even go more general than this:

1) My comment isn't bias, I'm actually very objective

2) You don't watch as much as me

3) Stats don't tell the whole story

4) What I saw on the ice was what really happened

5) Your team is no good, mine is the best thing that happened to sports

Lie No. 2: The referees are out to get us

I try to stay even keeled about the zebras, they have a tough job blah blah blah, but when a team goes from one of the least penalized to one of the most penalized following the Wideman hit on linesman Don Henderson, it starts to make one wonder.

Don't feel bad... that's the lie I have the hardest time not telling myself as well. Occasionally, I get to the point where I merely think they're incompetent (or directed to be bad by a higher power). But it's the easiest one to tell yourself so it creeps back in with alarming frequency.

At least we can be the first team to say that if they're out to get us, we'll go out to get them...

The diving one fits CP like a glove

Lie No. 1: My team doesn't dive
Hockey fans hate diving. Whether it's the full-on deep-six, the hands-in-the-air flying twirl or the only slightly more subtle embellishments like head snaps and overreactions, it drives fans crazy to see players try to work the refs.

No, somehow fans have convinced themselves that they happen to root for the only team that doesn't do this stuff.
And if one of their favourite players stands accused, they're willing to break down the clip frame-by-frame like it's the Zapruder film, until they've found the one angle that proves his innocence.

And in the rare cases where a player is guilty beyond all reasonable doubt? Well, he was just doing what any reasonable person would do, you see, because otherwise the refs never give him a call.
Giordano's a hell of a hockey player, but he's always been a bit of a diver and going over that game thread last week where he embellished the crosscheck read exactly like this, lol. It went from "no he doesn't/didn't" to "well it wasn't that bad, though, other teams players are way worse" to "Well, he had to otherwise we never get the calls!!".

Some other ones:

- new players always get their first career goal against us

- players always reach milestone goals / points against us

- our team always makes other team's backups look like all stars

Yeah at first I thought that was only us but then reading Gaskal's ATL, seems like all other fans say that as well..

Actually, looking at the pool as a whole, I think we are largely an exception. We've always convinced ourselves we had that one great prospect that usually busted (Baertschi) or didn't meet expectations at first (Backlund) but became a really solid non-superstar piece (also Backlund), but I've often found that Flames fans have dumped on our own prospect pool overall far more than we've allowed ourselves to believe it is deep. Two decades of drafting failures makes it very hard to convince oneself that we've ever really had much depth.

Biased. So many people on forums say bias instead of biased. Why? It can't all be typos. Is this a thing now?

I am not convinced that the nominal form is incorrect in these instances. I read it as an apositive.

I suppose. I guess someone could say a comment "is bias" in and of itself, though I would never write it that way - I'd say "the comment is biased" or maybe "that comment is a result of your bias".

I've never seen it in a way that I thought it was meant that was meant as anything other than "that comment is biased". But I still see people say "you are bias". Or "I might be bias, but". Or "the refs are so bias". That's clearly wrong.

Yeah, I would never write it that way either, and these other examples are very clearly incorrect, but for obvious reasons. Of course, I could be wrong and MarkGio made the statement thinking that he was using the adjective.

New teams get their first win against the Flames. Watch our first game against Vegas.

Or he actually did just make a typing or autocorrect error.

I wonder if I've posted about this enough yet.
