Leafs trade Peter Holland to Coyotes for conditional pick
@FriedgeHNIC: Think Peter Holland is going to ARIZ for a conditional draft pick
Confirmed by "idiot" GM:
Craig Morgan @craigsmorgan
Coyotes GM John Chayka confirms this. Awaiting word on what round that pick is.

And just like that the Coyotes are now a serious contender.

The Netherlands has now begun their expansion into America, as predicted.

The NHL's contract dumping ground gains one more. Clutterbuck will be a Coyote before his extension is over for sure.

Leafs down to 48 contracts, and will add Ramo to bring them back to 49, with that single spot for wiggle room

Breaking news:
Chayka now offers Duclair+Holland+pick for Dougie Hamilton. Believes that will tip the scales for Treliving.

^See, I assume that's a joke, but just because it's you it's hard to tell.
Anyway, the Leafs needed to do this because Josh Leivo is coming off injured reserve and they needed a roster spot for him. So it was this, or waivers.

The thing is that Arizona is 1st in waiver priority as well. So they most likely would have ended up with Holland without giving up the conditional pick.

Good point, but then AZ would be unable to trade the player without first offering him back to the Leafs, which depending on the conditions might have been enough of an incentive (i.e. if the conditions are unlikely to be met anyway).

Saving their spot, for someone more lucrative perhaps...

Their spot doesn't change if they make a claim.

No spot saving. NHL waiver priority are totally based on standings. Claiming a player doesn't change the team's priority
