The Pens lost star winger Patrick Kane for a month however they decided to fill another lineup hole before looking for help up front.

Lacking a physical presence on the backend the Pens dealt Marco Scandella and a pair of draft picks to bring in physical D man Erik Gudbranson.

Needing a big D and seeing Matt Martin suit up for the rival Caps made the fit a natural one.
