Default Jack Johnson Bankrupt

http://bluejacketsxtra.dispatch.com/...ce=twitterfeed
“I’d say I picked the wrong people who led me down the wrong path,” Johnson, a 27-year-old defenseman, told The Dispatch last week. “I’ve got people in place who are going to fix everything now. It’s something I should have done a long time ago.”
He has declined to comment further.
But sources close to Johnson have told The Dispatch that his own parents — Jack Sr. and Tina Johnson — are among the “wrong people” who led him astray financially.
Wow. Trust mom and dad. Hopefully he can get it all sorted out

In reference to the 'poor financial decisions' that led to Vanek having to cooperate in a federal gambling investigation.

I always feel bad for these guys. I know it's easy to be cynical and say these kids are millionaires and just morons for not knowing who to trust or what to do. I just think that they're good at hockey and have to hope that other people who claim to know better actually do. Some of these guys have the best earning years of their lives frittered away, and that's a shame.

just another example of why you don't do business with family. I do actually feel bad because not only did he lose a lot of money, he likely lost a relationship with his family over this or at least put a huge strain on things.

I'm never surprised to hear of leeches latching on to young millionaire athletes but when it's their parents that's just sad.

At least at this point, if he changes his habits or hires a financial adviser, he can still retire wealthy

Sounds like his parents get to live the American dream at least...

I'm assuming his parents weren't very moral people to begin with. But I mean, to rob your son who is sacrificing his body only to be bankrupt..

His dad was a noted d-bag from his days at Michigan.

There was lots of talk about him coming there and acting like he was the BMOC because his son was the hockey star at the time.

I am with you on this. The people who are cynical about these types of situations don't understand that these guys are handed millions of dollars at the age of 18. I wouldn't know what the hell to do with that kind of money at that age nor would I have any idea of who to talk to about managing that money. It's not that these athletes are dumb. They just haven't learned how to be fiscally responsible.

Now as for Johnson, that was incredibly scummy of his parents. I hope those cars and houses were worth the relationship of your son. Unbelievable. At least he has the opportunity to make some of that back.

A $3,000,000 loan at 24%, wow. And 5 million in a two month period. His Parents are sad human beings, and not too bright either. It wouldn't suprise me if they have been borrowing against his future earnings since he was a teenager, why else would they suddenly need or feel entitled to so much money, so soon.

A kid should always be able to turn to and trust his parents. Another case study for Broke 2, the sequel.

Wow, that is sick. I wonder if his parents are guilty of anything. Giving someone power of attorney is a huge mistake.
