Default Fidel Castro dies

Watching Al Jazeera English. They are sourcing Cuban State Tv. Fidel Castro was 90 years old. Will post a link when I get it.

2016 can end already. Famous people should be nervous.

End of quite the era.

That's a shame, the good always die so young.

I just assumed he's been dead for years and were propping up his carcass so that Raul could transition into power peacefully.

An iconic figure of our lifetimes.

Cuba would have been better off without him.

Probably not. Fidel vs Fulgencio Batista... I'd probably opt for Fidel.

Fair enough and I don't know enough to comment.

The guy was a brutal oppressor of human rights, locked up anyone who didn't agree with his views, ran forced labor camps executed and systematically tortured political dissidents.

I wouldn't be willing to classify him as good. Hopefully with him gone the government can start carrying out more meaningful reforms. Hopefully Raul can start releasing some of the political prisoners that his brother left to rot in prisons as a sign that the old ways are dead.

Wow, out lived JFK, LBJ, Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, Bush, Clinton, W, almost Obama. Quite a legacy.

Well, outlasted not outlived. Everyone since Reagan is still alive. Also, he didn't really outlast W or Obama since Raul has been running things since 2006.

The Cubans have had a history of being oppressed from the Spanish to the Americans/Batista and then Castro. Hopefully this is the start of meaningful changes to bring them a slice of freedom.

What's this mean? Outlasted vs. Outlived? Is there a point here?

Lets all start a contentious CP debate over a dictator that caused much harm to his people. Lets get the semantics in play, the political views and try carve each other up over some forum posts. LET THE GAMES BEGIN. Even though we didn't live in the brutal regime.

Or how about we just let him pass and focus on the future and the good things going on.

Now with that I would like to say Fidel is sponsoring the NDP of Alberta in all their endeavours.
