Will you live in Calgary for the rest of your life?
I'm getting pretty homesick lately, and for the first time I've started contemplating moving home in 10-20 years.
I understand most people here are transplants. Do you intend to stay here or go back home eventually? For those born here, will you retire here or elsewhere?
I guess the economy has probably changed people's minds on this lately, but even before the slump, did you plan to stay in Calgary for good?

Its funny. In my early 20's I was of the opinion that I was going to move to a "better" city like Toronto or Vancouver, where there was more going on. This was intensified after university when I went travelling for a while, but then during the 2000's, Calgary turned into much more of a cosmopolitan place, and when I entered my 30's, I realized I absolutely loved it again.
I live in Edmonton now, but I would say I'll live in Calgary again at some point - too many friends and family, and good times to be had there. However, I'll probably retire elsewhere, somewhere with more temperate weather (a sentiment I used to make fun of but as I get more grey it becomes more appealing).
That said, it is an absolutely life opportunity to live elsewhere for a while. Do it if/when you can. You learn so much about yourself, and even more about what Calgary is to you.

I left Calgary in the spring (Although I didn't make it far) and hope to move to the countryside once my kid is done school, or at least older. But I'm sure I'll be back in Calgary at some point

I've lived in Calgary all my life, as has my dad, and his dad. We'll probably stay here for a long time -- maybe retire in the Okanagan or something if everything works out nice.

Born here and don't plan on moving. Way too much family and friends to move anywhere but California for a few months a year would be a dream.

Wife and I are thinking of moving to Europe for a few years, but would keep the place here. I can't imagine I'll live here until I die but I think we will be here for a few decades. I grew up in Canmore, so I'm not a lifer but have been here most of the time since I was 19.

If this new trend of awesome (mild) winters keeps up, I'd say there's not much more I'd really want in a city. Proximity to an ocean would be the only thing

I'm born and raised here, but went to school in Halifax for a few years and absolutely loved it.
I could easily see myself moving back there at some point. It would be a great place to live if the right opportunity presented itself.
I wouldn't feel like I missed anything by living in Calgary for the rest of my life though. The city is really starting to undergo some exciting changes.

I've always lived here, but wouldn't be opposed to living in San Diego or out in BC at some point in my life. Probably wouldn't be realistic for another 30+ years.

My family moved to Calgary from BC when I was 8 so I grew up there, then attended UofC, then got my first real job. I thought I would be there forever but was laid off in 2008 which completely ruined those plans.
I have thought a lot about moving back as there are lots of things I miss, I could afford to buy property, and I would like my daughter to experience a Calgary winter so she is not a wimp in the cold. Probably will never happen though as I am very happy here and there is no work in Calgary.

I hope not. I want to live somewhere someday where it doesn't snow in the winter. Preferably outside of Canada.

Married a woman from Vietnam, so that's where retirement is going to take me in all likely hood. Though will how much I hate Calgary weather I have entertained the thought of working over there too

I'll likely stay here until my kids are done school and through most of my working career. For retirement I plan to be a position to have a place somewhere warm and a place in the mountains somewhere

We built our dream house here three years ago and included things like bricks from my great grandfather's farm house in the design, so I have no intention of leaving it. We both love Vancouver Island though, and Tofino in particular, and have considered buying a second place out there a few times. Maybe when I actually retire we'll do it and spend half the year out there and half here.

Most likely stay here but with a place in a hot climate for the winters. Love this city since the day I moved here.

I could see myself being a snowbird later in life for winters, but other than that I'd like to stay here.

All my family and friends are here, so I'm probably a lifer. I can't see myself moving away to a place where I don't know anybody when I retire.

Depends what a person is into I suppose, I moved from Calgary to an acreage in BC and would never even entertain the idea of living in a city ever again. Calgary is/was awesome but living in "the sticks" has changed my tune. Nothing better than a nice cruise up the mountain

I moved here from Saskatoon back in 2000 and I doubt I would ever move back, especially now that I have a wife and kids. For the most part, Calgary is a pretty good place to raise a family. I will probably always have a home here but maybe just take extended vacations when I'm retired to places with warmer winters.
