Default Racist outburst on LRT (video)

http://globalnews.ca/news/3052892/di...ured-on-video/

Quote:
Global News has obtained a video shot by a teenage boy who said he was riding the CTrain Friday afternoon.

The video appears to show a couple with a baby in a confrontation with a man. A heated exchange including racist comments can be heard in the video before the man exits the train.

Global News spoke with the Canadian Cultural Mosaic Foundation who said the video is not surprising.
Hopefully they publicly shame this clown.

Yep! This stuff happens everywhere even though it is terrible it is not going to dissipate anytime soon unfortunately. There have been countless times I have intervened on the CTrain when no good pieces of trash start getting racist or even harassing other passengers on the train.

Like you said though "Just another day on the train"

I saw a dude simultaneously shoplift a dollarama while berating the staff/security guard and demanding to know if they were citizens and telling them to leave the country.

I remember taking a train a few years ago when two skinheads holding resumes and other interview stuff got on complaining about how immigrants were taking away all their jobs.

No you **tards, the giant swastikas tattood all over your face on it is what is taking away your jobs.

Why did they blur his face? Is the ctrain not public property?

Legal team has probably instructed them to do so to avoid any potential lawsuits or defamatory action.

Earlier today I was on my way to a job interview, and was making a call on my cell phone at the LRT platform near the saddledome. Suddenly, this big Aboriginal dude comes up to me, puts his hands on me twice, and shouts "Are you Caucasians afraid of Native dudes?" While five of his buddies (all of them highly intoxicated), howled with laughter.

I can take some harassment on the LRT or it's platforms, but it crosses the line when a 6'4 drunken idiot puts his hands on my shoulders twice while waiting for the train. The group proceeded to enter the LRT going southbound, while the big guy continued to harass passengers, and at one point, undid his belt and fly, then adjusted it (thankfully he didn't drop his pants).

I miss my car...

I've been harassed by natives in downtown Edmonton on a few occasions. I have NEVER harrassed or used racial slurs against ANYONE.

I'm a big boy and I can handle it but I must say it was wrong, uncomfortable, and no one deserves to be treated like that.

Unrelated... I had a big native guy come up to me and ask for money on the train. He started by saying "Hey man.. could I have a hundred bucks?" I laughed pretty hard at the unusual request and the guy made a 10 off me. I don't usually give money to beggars, and I've seen him a few times before- but his request was pure gold haha

So it's alright for that to happen to a white person, but it's an outrage if it's the other way around?

Stories like Jets4Life's are pretty common here in Calgary, but they get swept under the rug, and that's not right. I'd say just as common as the one being reported on here. They really need to start making exampled out of people, on both sides of the coin.

C-Train is in desperate need of a cleanup. I don't take it very often, but I'd wager 50% of the time I do I see some sort of harassing or illegal activity going down on it.

Easy now...

Did you watch the video? The two situations are clearly not similar.

The Aboriginal dude put his hand on his shoulder and asked if he was scared of Natives, which, judging by his reaction and his post he clearly is. I think the original outrage was based on the "racism" aspect, not the abrasiveness of the LRT passenger.

Don't get too worked up about it.

If you really want to get down to it- one involved physical contact, whereas the other was words. One is technically illegal.

I am afraid of anybody that much bigger than me touching me in a physically intimidating way.

I will agree that being white I am subjected to far less racism than people who fall into a "minority" category. I will also agree that natives are far too often the target of racism. But none of that makes either situation right, nor something to be dismissed.

Yeah, I agree with that. I think the issue is that one situation is based on a person being overtly racist and threatening, and the other is your basic uncomfortable interaction downtown (that granted, obviously scared the poster).

We've all experienced something like the latter. Stories of awkward interactions aren't quite the same as someone being overtly racist. It's worth complaining about, but for different reasons.

More people should ask themselves, "Do I need to identify the race of these people to make the story clear?" If no, it's probably bad to do so. It just promotes a negative stereotype. People are people.

You don't have to identify the race to tell your story, and I found it kind of funny that in a thread about a racist outburst, people had to come in and tell a few negative stories about minorities (that could've just been negative LRT stories in general). I think that's why the story got dismissed.

We didn't do it for the guy on the video, did we? "White man has racist outburst on LRT"
Was the story changed by this?
