Default Tortorella with big praise for Gulutzan

Quote:
think he's progressive," Tortorella said after the Blue Jackets' morning skate. "I think he's got a really interesting insight to the game. I think he's a terrific coach, I really do."
Quote:
"Gully was being chased by a lot of people at that point in time during the summer. A number of teams were after him. He was driving back home and I called him and I could tell right on the phone call … I don't know where he was but the phone would cut out and he would have to pull over and call me back … but I could tell, just through the amount of work I did in asking people about him that he was the right guy for us."
Quote:
"Terrific guy, terrific family. Very intellectual about the game. That's where the game is going. A lot of different things are being brought into coaching and I think Gully is on top of those things."
Kiss of death for Gully? Torts giving him praise.

I do see his system slowly taking form in the team.

Unbelievable. These pithy drive-by posts that add nothing and totally take away from the thread have to stop. What a joke.

Until we get some sort of NHL quality special teams, it will be hard to judge the coaching of this team.

The team's 5v5 play as of late has been much, much better. It's starting to show signs that they're building something.

...it's all completely undercut by having the 30th PK and 30th PP though. We're losing games, almost nightly, because of the special teams. I don't know a damn thing about hiring an assistant/special teams coach, but there had to be some sort of reasoning behind Dave Cameron being brought in...right?

praising the coach of the 30th place team in the league (point % yadda yadda yadda), that is among the league worst in PP, PK, goals for/game, goals against/game.

Essentially, every quantifiable metric on the quality of a team, the flames are bottom 5 in the entire league.

Nice to hear tortorella's glowing praise, will be an even greater kick in the teeth as his team plows over the flames tonight.

Apparently Gulutzan's mentor? Seems like a favor more than a sound strategic well thought out hire.

Tortorella praises him because he has no fear of him.

Guy spends more time looking down than at the ice when he's on the bench.

The players have to take some of the blame for the powerplay and penalty kill too. There's only so much the coaches can do. It's up to the players to execute. I'm not sold on GG either but let's not pretend the coaches are solely responsible. This same group was horrible on the PP/PK last year under a different coach.

Alright.

Or it's just lip service to a friend who is coaching the worst place team in the league and is under fire.

Revisionist history. The team surely had a bad start. PP in the second half was improved. Offence on the whole was not the problem.

And you don't have to be on all of them.

At some point some posters need to recognize we know what your opinion is and it doesn't need to be repeated at all times in multiple ways. There's room for your opinion along side others. Some people may disagree and may want differing voices. You don't always need to add your 2 cents, and the quality of discourse is lowered by the online equivalent of a shouting match.

I wonder if it is more of a backhanded comment to Hartley. Those 2 didn't seem to like each other.

Maybe Torts wants to troll our coach out of a job as revenge for Hartley trolling him out of his.

I see flashes of brilliance and think waiting on Gully is the right thing to do.

Cameron has to go though

He's looking at the video monitor in the bench... cmon..

I think GG will be forgiven by many if they can figure out the damn special teams and for that, Cameron has to go..

Until then, GG will be heavily criticized, rightfully or wrongly.

Unfortunately for you, I have to wait for my system to refresh at work today and this is a forum. I can post a stupid comment if I want.

Some people take this crap way too seriously. Look at all that time you wasted replying.

How the tables have turned... Torts has a coaching gig and doing well, while Hartley is sitting at home.
