A fair and level headed assessment Bingo. However I woulda put Coach Gulutzan on a roast and a spit.
I guess that's why I dont do game takes.

Hamilton did have that one bad turnover, but the other two goals against he was on the ice for were because of terrible reads by Grossmann. I think its almost impossible to have a plus rating being paired with Grossmann, the guy isn't even close to being an NHL level defenseman.

I don't understand what is going on with Brian Elliott. It's almost as though he's having equipment issues; half of these goals are going right through him like he was Swiss cheese.

What I like though is the fact that Brett Kulak didn’t go out in his place and Dennis Wideman remained on the sidelines. This isn’t to bash Wideman as he’s had some pretty good play since being scratched earlier in the season, but I have this feeling that Brett Kulak in 15 straight games could be the fourth defenseman answer the Flames are looking for, and perhaps a classic battery mate for Dougie Hamilton.
|
Yeah liked Kulak's game as well.

He may be longing for Hitchcock's D right now. So many fewer grade A chances to defend. Really helps the stats.
He does have some very good saves but goalies of teams coached by Sutter, Tippett, Hitchcock etc. have far fewer ridiculous saves to make.

Kulak and Engelland played 23/22 minutes and were not on the ice for any of the Kings goals.
Keep them together as the 2nd pairing.
-------------
when does it stop being Hamilton's partner's fault? The only guy that has been able to make Hamilton look like an top 4 d-man for more than 1 game in a row has been Russell (and Chara)
----------------
RFA long term deals rather than bridge contracts:
Hamilton/Monahan/Gaudreau
----------------------
If the Flames are not going to be contenders why aren't Jankowski, Klimchuck, Poirier, Shinkaruk, Wootherspoon, Morrison or even Kylington getting a NHL chance.
The Jets (due to injuries) called up Melechori, Dano, Petan, Copp, to play with their rookies Tanev, Laine, Morrissey, Connors and other youngsters Lowry/Ehlers and got a OT point in Washington and beat Detroit in Detroit. Maybe they won't make the playoffs either but they are not picking up Grossman and Versteeg as roster fill.

I guess the answer is that Jets youngsters are more NHL ready than the Flames youngsters.

We don't. Treliving has shown he's a bit old school in that he prefers veteran players in bottom roles which goes against the grain of what other teams are doing in the salary cap era. Ideally you have entry level players playing bottom roles to free up cap space and give a chance for players to which the organization has spent years to cultivate and develope. I guess maybe behind the scenes the directive from ownership is to make the playoffs at all costs. I hope hats not the case because given the on ice product that would be massive failure.

I'd also say that Kulak and Backlund had good games as well. Great read as usual.

I feel bad for you that you have to do all these depressing write-ups yourself. But you're managing to keep them interesting, so kudos.
Wouldn't be surprised if Hathaway replaces Bouma, but would prefer to see some of the top 9ers from Stockton get a chance and leave the Backlund and Stajan lines alone.
