Its the right call...what is junior gonna do for the guy? Don't be worried about ruining him its not like he has been gifted top line minutes, he will continue to earn the ice he gets.

If I remember correctly he has 4 point in 9 games. That is decent production for a 1st year player.

"ELC burned" has such a negative connotation.
If he stays and plays, it's not like the contract was "burned". He was paid for services rendered for this year.

He brings an edge to his game that we have in short supply. Would have been a tough decision to send him down. Plus, his chin is insane. He ate a flush knee to the head from Duncan Keith and doesn't even miss a game.

So 9 games means his ELC starts this year. But there's another threshhold right? (think it was 37 games or somewhere around there). That's the one where this year would count towards his 7 year before UFA status? Guess we'll see if he hits that as well.
But I have no problems keeping Tkachuk with the big club. It's probably better for his development. I wonder if they'll loan him for the WJC.

No, no, no.
Tinordi specifically said it was an easy decision to send him down.
But that tweet appears to come from the official Flames account.
Can someone tweet them and tell them that Treliving must have made a mistake and that Tkachuk needs to be sent down? Like pronto.

Tkachuk brings an element to the roster that no other player brings right now and helps the team win games.
Right decision in my books

I currently approve of this decision, but if a year or two from now he demands a large contract, or doesn't turn out to be a top 6 forward, I reserve the right to be retroactively pissed off about this decision.

I would rather we had saved the ELC contracts, we are no where near contending and its better to have players at lower cost further down the road.

Saved them for what? If a player deserves to be in the NHL then so be it.

Easy and correct decision.
He's got nothing left to learn in Junior and if the team continues to play like garbage then he can ease his way up the line up with no pressure.

I'm good with it. He brings an element the team needs and I don't think going back to junior would be best for his development. Here he can play and learn to be an everyday pro. And he will be playing decent minutes in all situations which is what he needs.

Love it ...
I think guys that look to be locks in your core should all get that year burned, but then maybe send them back at by game 39 if the season is going nowhere.
Way less negotiating ability with either a full 18 year old year, or an abbreviated year in the mix.

Agreed, the additional RFA year is a much bigger issue long term.

No brainer when you consider his abilities and the lack of a gritty pest on the Flames.
