100% agree with your observations of Bennett. I thought he totally deserved first star and was kind of disappointed when the broadcast shut him out. He has really picked up his play, both physically and skill wise, and I think it's come from simplifying. 4 games ago he was trying to fancy stick handle through defensemen and tonight he used that stick handling to hang onto the puck and do a spin to get himself into a good position and scored for it. Could have had a couple tonight.

I liked how Tkachuk looked on that line in the preseason but having Bouwer and Versteeg seems to really bring a confidence and stability to that line. Plus playing with two workhorses like Backlund and Frolik can be nothing but good for Tkachuk's game, really hoping he sticks!

Agreed on Sam Bennett's night feeling "epic".

Excellent article. Bennett was incredible. That insta-possession turn around snipe was so awesome even though it didn't go in.

Tcachuk was all over tonight as usual. Just a matter of time before he starts clicking and connecting for points. Once again he got under the skin of the other team.

I think the goat was the ice. Everything was bouncing and different. The puck was very unpredictable. I thought the Flames might have had a goal more if not for this weird arena at this time of year.

I know why they are keeping Grossman around. It's to play against these big teams like the Blues. Pleasantly surprised he handled himself well.

I think for the Flames they really need to decide who they are this year and that will help them make the Tkachuk decision.

Are they playoff bound or is this a rebuild year? If it's the latter you probably send him back. If it's the former you likely ride it out because I think Matthew Tkachuk vintage March 2017 is going to be one of the club's top 9 forwards.

He played pretty well last night. He had one awkward pass up the middle, but that's mostly because it deflected off the Blues player's skate and skidded out front. But no worries, as the winger was in good position to help out.

Overall he kept it simple and wasn't that noticeable. And for a D like him, that's a good thing.

Like Wideman, he responded like a good veteran does and had a nice simple game. I was expecting worse, as it must have been dwelling on him that one more mistake that leads to a goal and he'll be in the press box for a long time. Not a good frame of mind for a hockey player. But kudos to him for performing well.
