Default Johnson

He played awesome.

He and Elliott must be wondering what they got themselves into.

Elliott gets a half dozen breakaways a game and the only offense in from of Johnson is Lui Erikkson scoring on his own net.

Sheeesh.

Johnson stayed firmly upright during one on one. Unusual style.

He made himself a big target and stood firm.

Looked better than Elliott. But didn't have the 20 break aways Elliott got. Until OT that is.

Elliott was the reason we lost game 1 and wasn't much better in game 2. He is part of the problem, not a victim.

Johnson was ok but outplayed by Ryan Miller so that doesn't say much.

Out of everything that's happened so far this season the goaltending is possibly the most dissapointing of all.

The Flames didn't even technically score a goal. You could have a hybrid of Roy and Hasek in their primes and you're still not going to win putting zero pucks in the net.

Johnson's play last night was one of the very few things that I would call encouraging about the start of the season.
If he has more games like this, we will be able to win with the backup in net.

Johson looked like, what many teams have had over the years ,except Calgary, a cappable back-up. This is what back-up goaltenders should look like. They come in and steal a win ( in this case get us a point). Don't posters remember over the years getting the other teams back-up and them looking good? You would see posts of " why do the flames make back-up goaltenders look so good?". It wasn't the flames making them look good, its that a lot of back-up goaltenders can actually play the game. I am very happy that the flames, for the first time in a long time, have a good back-up.

Keep Johnson in for at least another game, he's earned it.

Plus we play his former team next. He will have something to prove.

Johnson had great rebound control all game. Every shot that hit him either stuck to him or he directed it to the corners. Very solid game from him. It took a very well executed cycling play from the best cycling line in the NHL to beat him. Not only that, but he gave us more then enough chances to win in the shootout.

A real shame the only offence he got all night was Eriksson scoring on himself.
