Pens lose their Mack but find a Hall pass

The Pittsburgh Penguins had a lot of trade talks over the past couple weeks and came really close to pulling the trigger a couple of times. However the team chose patience in order to find a deal that helped fill the teams needs the best. That deal came together today as the Pens pulled off their biggest deal of the offseason. The Pens sent 4 players and a pick to play the Wild In a blockbuster 8 man deal.

After the league cut down on position availability the Pens major off season acquisition of Vladimir Tarasenko created a huge strength on the right side while leaving the left wing with a major lack of top 6 talent. That weakness showed in the offseason as the Pens were the worst team in the league by a wide margin. Today's deal will hopefully add strength to the roster and bring better results.

It was hard moving Mackinnon but in the end we felt we needed to make a move to try and get this team winning. Hopefully the new balanced lines will bring in the results this team needs.

Wow. Interesting trade. Certainly shakes up both teams in a major way.

I think Pittsburgh wins on Forwards. Hall and Mackinnon are probably close but the German should be better than the Finn. Plus Van Reimsdyk.

On Minny's side, I like Nurse and Petry against just Scandella. Plus a 2nd rounder to boot.

Close call. Not sure who wins this deal.

Fun to make a deal like this. I think Nate is the prize in the deal but I would break things down like this

I think I'm buying low on a couple guys (TT and Nurse) that I think can be a lot better than they have shown. And I also think Mackinnnon will take a step this year with Roy gone.

A fun trade, if I had to pick what group I would want, I would pick what Goffie got. Doesn't mean he wins the trade, just preference.

I think Goffie wins in near term whereas Jiri could look good in a few years. Depends what Nurse turns out to be.

I like MacKinnon, and had inquired about a few trades scenarios with him before getting Crosby. Glad to see, if anywhere, he move out east though.

If Hall gets the grease off of him and preforms well in Jersey, and if JVR gets some time with Matthews, this could pay off really well for next season for the Pens.

Minnie gets the best player in Mac, but Goffie desperately needed a shake up, so this trade makes total sense.

Nice to see such a large number of pieces in one transaction.
