"That's a big part of it,'' reckons a mighty mite from a different era, Theoren Fleury. "I can't imagine him playing 80 games with, you know, Jeff Beukeboom and Steve Smith Velcro-ed to his side for 60 minutes. But it's a very specialty-teams-oriented game today.

I agree with him, but that's because the game has changed so much.

Loved Theo as a player, but every time he opens his mouth, his ego gets the better of him.

It's an old article. Odd they'd post it without saying when it was listed initially.

The same reason Trump can't offer an honest apology for anything. It's always someone else's fault... the ego is mighty with that one

Yeah. I love Theo, but he's never realized praise isn't a zero sum game.

Theo is so salty.
He will never change, and I hope he never gets the "forever a flame" treatment. Especially after his rant on Conroy not putting up points after Theo didn't complete his comeback awhile back.

I wish they would stop asking his opinion, cause he always uses the opportunity to pat himself on the back

Iginla : "He can score goals, obviously, but he'd be a fun guy to have on your line because he loves to dish it. You can tell, watching him, that he's just as happy finding the open guy as putting the puck in himself."

Well Jarome, if the Av's are out of it at the deadline and we're looking like a contender I'd be ok with the flames giving you that chance as a rental for a farewell tour....as long as Sakic only wants a late pick going back the other way.

Ok, probably won't happen but with all the joy surrounding this signing it's hard to not be hoping for a fairytale season like that.

Man Theo is bitter! When I read that earlier today and saw that Fleury was in it, I knew what was coming before I even got to his comments.

It's just the way he's wired. He's always had a chip on his shoulder and it's what made him a great player and maybe not the greatest person. I don't hold it against him as he is who he is.

Fixed.

Guy's an ultra competitor and has a huge chip on his shoulder. It's why he was so good, and simultaneously why he tends to come off like a bit of an asshat in interviews.

EDIT: Didn't see the past two above saying basically the same thing. What he said

PP opportunities were way down last season, and have been trending down sharply since the lockout.

There were less specialty teams play last season than when Fleury played.

who the hell wants to watch hockey where the star player has Jeff Beukeboom and Steve Smith velcro-ed to their side anyways? plus Theo always leaves out the part where many of his contemporaries got into shape by sitting in a sauna for 40 minutes and cutting down to just a half pack of cigarettes a day. Duha always likes to tell that story where he handily beat several Flames players back in the day at a 3km run (a few of whom couldn't even finish it).

now every player is a finely tuned athletic instrument since they were 12 years old, and Johnny has to deal with that now. he doesn't have a bunch of dudes waterskiing on him, but that's been replaced with super quick, muscular freaks that could probably bench press a bar with a Johnny on each side of it.
