Icon60 Lightning will retire Marty St. Louis' No 26

Tampa Bay Lightning
@TBLightning
For the first time in franchise history, we will be hanging a number from the rafters.

26 is that number.

When I think of the lightning, I think of Lecavalier before St. Louis. I imagine they'll both be retired at some point.

Hmmmm....I don't know
I think 'Forever a Lightning' would be a more suitable tribute

And instead of hanging their jersey, they could hang a banner with a photo of them?

Remember when he sulked his way off the team because he couldn't accept he wasn't good enough for the Olympic squad?

Good times.

And then he ended up going anyways and still sulked afterwards.

I hope the Flames play the Lightning in the SCF again in Tampa game 7. St. Louis' jersey somehow un-anchors itself and falls from the rafters during play. The refs think it was a Tampa fan who threw it and gives the hometeam a penalty. Flames score on the ensuing PP and win the cup.

Sweet justice.

I always like St. Louis and retiring a jersey is a way better option than "Forever a Flame".

Good on Tampa for honouring your star players.

No Dave Andreychuk? I guess he didn't play enough years in Tampa to get his numbers retired.

I liked the way he played hockey. I like cheering for the underdog. By all accounts, he was a huge ###### off the ice though. He held grudges against Flames management. Sulked about not making the Olympic team. Blamed Yzerman, despite the fact that Yzerman defended and wanted to add St. Louis to the team, and it was the other Olympic brass that kept him off. Still made the Olympic team. Then publicly demanded a trade because of disputes with Yzerman.

At one point nobody in the league wanted him at all, he ended up carving out what might be a HOF career. Good for him, he got a little whiny near the end but he was a damn good player for a lot of years.
