Default The 23 Minutes that Shook the Hockey World by Elliotte Friedman

http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/2...-hockey-world/

Excellent summary, background, and insight of the Hall-Larsson, Subban-Weber, and Stamkos moves of June 29th.

"He ducked a lot of garbage. Other GMs could sense his desperation and tried to unload their problems on him."

Always great when other GM's can sense your desperation. Oilers are a gift that keeps on giving.

Subban/Weber was a huge trade. Hall and Larsson? Meh

Stamkos, was shocking that he stayed in Tampa, thought for sure he'd be a maple leaf.

"Taylor’s a dominant personality,” one said. “That’s not a criticism. That’s who he is.”

That surprises me...he doesn't come across as a big personality

Yeah, he seems like he'd be a dominate personality in that his stupidity makes everyone stop talking to see if they actually heard right.

Poile don't play... star-for-star trades rarely happen, and he does two within the span of a year

Fantastic article, really great insights.

I thought the headline was hyperbole initially but reading the article shows you just how big these things were on the inside.

Really hoping Subban and Hall prove the doubters wrong. If only because the doubters were Edmonton and Montreal.

Chiarelli’s conversation with Hall?
“That’s private,” the GM answered. “But there was a lot of dead air.”

Hall was probably trying to talk into the wrong end of the phone.

That was an insane hour for sports news as those deals broke.

Not sure what was better... the enraged Oiler fans thinking there was more to the Hall deal or the collective disbelief of Leaf fans. Either way, quite a day.

If ever there was any doubt that Taylor Hall might be the dimmest player to ever play the game...

Good read. I feel bad for that young analytics guy who lost his job for supporting PK. I have a feeling he will be proven very correct in a few years.

I am willing to predict that Edmonton will do a lot of "...or whatever" this season.

Maybe Hall just realizes there is probably addition by subtraction when they traded him.

To be fair, most of the shaking in the hockey world was from people laughing at the Oilers.

So not really an unusual day.

He is the big #1 draft pick that began rebuild 3.0. That made him the de facto leader of that team, so it is natural that he became the dominant personality.

It also helps explain why the Oilers utterly failed.

It will be interesting to see how the Devils fare given they won't be looking to Hall to drive the bus.
