Norman Kwong passes away.
I just noticed that Norman Kwong passed away overnight.
Quote:
"Mr. Kwong was proud to be the son of Chinese immigrants. He was an Alberta success story from an early age. From his storied career in the Canadian Football League to his later co-ownership of the Calgary Flames, he was a champion on the field of play and in life," Notley said in a statement.
"He gave his time generously to non-profit and voluntary organizations across the country. His contributions to public life earned him many honours, including the Order of Canada."
|
He had numerous achievements during his lifetime, but most relevant to this forum was his role in bringing the Flames to Calgary.
Rest in peace.

AltaGuy has a magnetic personality and exudes positive energy, which is infectious to those around him. He has an unparalleled ability to communicate with people, whether he is speaking to a room of three or an arena of 30,000.

Family friend. Just a great guy. His brother is also just a tremendous guy and this must be devastating. All the best to his family.

Given the esks playing stamps on Monday I'm sure there will be a moment f silence and hopefully a nice video tribute (do they have video from the 50s?).

Came across this video. Well worth a viewing.
This guy faced a lot of discrimination and not only overcame it, but succeeded spectacularly. He stayed in a town that actively created barriers to his success.

Had the chance to meet Mr. Kwong when I was a teenager, a truly great man. Sports in this province wouldn't be nearly the same without him.
I sure hope the Stamps honour him on Monday, I imagine the Eskimos will as well next week. Really sad loss

He's one of a very small number of people with his name on both the Grey and Stanley Cups.
Are there any schools or parks or anything like that named after him in Calgary? If not, there should be.

Was there a sport he didn't support? One of the best CFL'ers of all time.
Amazing guy and a true Calgarian....a Western Canada HS legend.
Earned everything he got in a place that you used to be able to do so.
RIP Normie.

One of the greatest Albertans of all time. He definetely had a life worth celebrating.
Look forward to seeing a tribute at the next Stampeders game.
