So I picked up a 1990 MR2 from Japan about 2 weeks ago. It's got the steering wheel on the right side of the car. They drive on that side in Japan. Anyways, I was driving around looking for some cool places to take photos it. I drove by Coyotes and I had to stop!!

That's an awesome picture.
Did you actually import the car from Japan yourself? I am just curious as to the hoops that you have to jump through to get it licenced and such in Canada, since it is a right-hand drive. Or if there is even anything you have to do.

yes, I imported it myself. It's the 4th one I've imported. I usually sell them, but I had to keep this one. It's in gorgeous condition! 28,000km.
You just have to pay customs and duty. The usual stuff. Then get an out of province inspection and you're good to go. Right hand drives are perfectly legal here.

Not sure if they are GT-R's or not, but I've seen about 3 different ones here in Lethbridge. I think there is about 6 right hand drive cars in Lethbridge in total. There is a guy who buys them, works on them (if needed) and sells them.

Yah, i saw a black skyline GT-R in calgary, down by ZR Auto back in July. Actually, I chased it down to make sure. I have seen more and more right hand drives. And here I thought it was just a pipe dream to bring them over to canada.

I know him. We both have the same contact in Japan. As a matter of fact, this MR2 was at his place waiting for me to pick it up.

i picked up an australian car mag once, just to check into what was hot there etc., and the car ads there blew me away.
cheap, cheap, cheap!
doing the conversion, cars like 300ZX's are WAY cheaper. i can't remember specifics but it really stood out to me.
shame aboot the right-hand-drive - i know many purists stand by it, but nothing in this world is as wierd as overtaking a car in the left lane, and being on the outside of the road. not a safe situation at all. but who drives these cars fast, besides me?

That's a great looking SW20. Long been my favorite car.
How much do these cost you? Do you find any real problems with being a right-hand side driver?

It's quite easy to get used to, takes about 10 mins. Non turbo model run about $7000-$9000 (depending on shape). Turbo models probably $11,000 and up. So they are about the same price as here. Except you won't find low km's like that here. And you get right hand drive. It's just something different.
edit: sorry you asked if there was any real problems. The biggest problem I would say is turning left at an intersection when there is another person turning left, going the other way. It's very hard to see the cars coming, when your view is blocked. Just got to be careful and take your time, or wait till the light turns amber..

I'd love to get one, but I'm always imagining myself getting into ridiculous accidents or looking ridiculous at parking lot toll booths not being able to reach the attendant or the ticket machine.

Thats pretty cool. You've said in the past that you can also get cars from Europe too. What are those like for price, and do they also have lower mileages on them like a car from Japan would? Is the fuel similar in places like Japan and Europe, or is the octane levels higher? I seem to remember from going through Europe that their octane levels were like 101 for regular, and higher. But that was like 10 years ago so those could be false images inside my head. Also do you have any contacts for places to get performance tires?

^ I think Europe uses a different octane mesurement method. We use RMS something or other. I can't remember my chem worth a crap.
Is it true that Peter's Drive In is the dinner destination of choice for those in RHD vehicles?

I can get European cars from Japan. Thes best part is they are all left hand drive. As long as they are older than 1990. We have been looking at bringing in Porsches, Mercedes and BMW's. They are dirt cheap! Well for me they are, but even after my profit, you will save a lot of money. Especially on a good 911 Turbo.
I have access to over 100,000 vehicles per week.
