Default Germans Told to Stockpile Supplies For Civil Defense Purposes

Very Cold War-ish of the them:

They said an attack is unlikely, but can't be ruled out.

Maybe a good way to get the economy going. Nothing sells like panic.

Not exactly. That pic says that's how it will look like two hours after the super market opens.

Seems like keeping supplies on hand in case of disaster/emergency would be common sense. Makes me wonder what it would be like if something like the Quebec ice store hit Calgary, how many people would be completely unable to function just based off their utter reliance on others.

I've got at least a week's worth of liquor in the cabinet, a good 100 beers on stock and a month worth of wine. I should survive. Not sure about my liver, though.

As an aside, when my wife and I moved to Vancouver, we began stockpiling a three-day supply of food, water, some other gear. Trying to move it up to seven days.

Not worth it. If things go south in Vancouver, it'll either be The Big One, in which case, good luck, or riots, in which case, you will want some beer and nachos.

We're on a high point in an earthquake proof building. We'd probably survive the quake, but then you have to wait until emergency services can coordinate a response. Probably 3-7 days.

Anyway, it is really just a fun survivalist challenge. We've started weight-training, self-defense classes, and I am signed up for an archery club. Just call me Rick.

Earthquake proof doesn't really work when it all liquefies and sinks into the sea.

Luckily the Rock should be there to help you.

Only the suburbs south of Van should really be in danger of sinking into the sea... Richmond's a total goner.

Makes me wonder what the danger is to the coastal islands in the event of a large quake. they're all basically giant rocks.

Depending on where the Big One drops, I think there is potential for the Straits of George to act like a gigantic funnel for a tsunami, so some of them are definitely at risk.
