Top 10 remaining unrestricted free agents
Russell and Hudler round out the top two UFA's still without contracts, but the notable list has a bunch of players I forgot about.
Karri Ramo, Alex Tanguay, David Legwand, Nick Spaling, Barret Jackman, Christian Ehrhoff, R.J. Umberger, Mike Richards, Joni Ortio, Ilya Bryzgalov

I think Russell and hudler will get contracts. As for some of the other noted in post, maybe some PTO's at best.

If this was 2012, you could make a decent starting lineup out of that crop.
Tanguay - Richards - Husker
Ehrhoff - Jackman
Bryzgalov

I can't believe you left David Jones off your team.

He's not in the top 10, rightfully so.
He did score 20 in 2012, though. But I was only taking sample from those listed.

I think Spaling signed in Switzerland around the same time Shore did.

Id add Versteeg to that list, assuming he would drop his European club to play for an NHL squad. Plus Pirri is better than some of those guys IMO

I think this just goes to show that the Flames with these players on it just wasn't very good.
And quite honestly, I don't think the Flames should entertain bringing any of them back to fill in spots.
Just MHO.

I would consider signing Hudler and Russell to low contracts so we can use them to get draft picks at the deadline.

Would have to think with Elias it is a thing where if he is healthy and wants to give it one more go - it will be with the Devils.

I'd be pretty happy with Hudler back on a 2 year deal around $2-3M at this point. Seems like we was a big piece that held the dressing room together in the unlikely playoff drive, and it wouldn't be a bad option to expose in the expansion draft.
Maybe at this point you look at the PTO route and let him a Tkachuk fight for 1 spot. Not too moved by the rest of the list, especially the other former flames.

Kris Russell must be kicking himself for playing hardball half a year ago.

No one on that list should be getting a 2 year deal at this point. Russell really screwed up although I do think he will get a contract, unlike most on the list.

If we could get Russell on the cheap I would take him back for sure, he was a big part of covering for Wideman and Hamilton. We'd probably have to move some cap though . . .

Blech, we have skill. We need speed or size not neither.

I think Russell has speed. And he moves the puck well. He also brings a high compete level.
