Yep it's amazing how much more I like him now... I had a strong dislike for him prior to his pay cut but now he's a pretty decent guy in my opinion.

Roman's a great backup goalie. And with his paycut he's a great backup goalie at a good price.

How can ya NOT like him after what he did ... I think he will be a great back up as well and there will be less pressure for him to perform like one of the highest paid goalies ...
I just hope we get to see him in action ( on the ice or bench ) this fall ...

Where is the option "Yes, but he is still clearly a back up and won't be a #1 goalie ever again"

I wonder how many votes of NO to get a reaction out of little TOTF. I liked him, then we signed him to that god-awful contract then he dicided to sit down and count his cash. He's a good backup, i'll give him that, a starter now, this late in his career. Nahhhh, I don't see it.

Exactly.
I mean I like Roman Turek, why would't I? He is a nice guy and all. But his game still isn't all that great anymore. He still lets in about one softie a game, he still doesn't have much of a mental toughness, he still doesn't use his massive frame to his advantage.
Sure he is a swell guy, and I think he is great for taking a paycut of sorts, but that doesn't now make me capable of being a #1. He had his chance for 3 seasons and could only do it for a 15 game stretch or so. Roman Turek is much more suited as a back up, it is perfect for him. It is a no pressure situation where it is a bonus if he gets the win. The pressure isn't on him to perform every night. I mean, isn't this the same guy who Sutter said didn't feel comfortable playing in back to back games?
I think it is great TOTF had him in his name and had to stick by and and now looks smart for doing so after Roman took a pay cut... but I doubt that even Roman himself wants to be the number one. If he did he would have let his contract run up or waived his no trade clause and looked for a #1 job somewhere else. He loves being a back up.

Well I don't hate Roman. I find he's alot like Cloutier in some ways. Some nights he's awesome others he can't stop a beachball. With Kipper as a first string i think Turek is a great backup.

I don't hate Roman, but he is rarely awesome on any nights. Honestly, can anyone think more then one big save he has made over the last several years? Or a game he has stolen for us in the last several years?
He is a great back up.

How about that huge win late in the season against 'Nucks in Vancouver. The huge diving glove save. He did have a couple of shutouts don't you remember?

Thank you, you named the one big save that I could think of. That is about it.
Couple of shutouts? Yup he sure did. He got some shutouts as a back up when the pressure wasn't on to win. He also didn't steal those shutout victories.
You proved my point exactly.

Support? What do you mean support?
Does criticizing a player for piss poor play mean you are not supporting him? No, it means you are being honest. Why would you be “proud” to say you supported him? Does that mean you had blind faith and didn’t notice his poor play? Honestly, I am confused on that.
I have seen numerous posters on this message board proudly proclaim that they stood by Roman Turek. Well whoop de do! Just because I criticized his play when he play playing very poorly doesn’t mean I didn’t “support” him, it means he sucked and he wasn’t playing well and he deserved the chastising he received. Simple as that.
Turek has always been a great human being, and I think it is hilarious to see people proclaim they have always supported him before he took a pay cut. Well good for you guys for doing that, it just means you are blind and didn’t see how awful he was playing.

Because he has always been a great goalie.. I can't see a reason to blame him at all last season.... He trains his ass off over the summer, comes into camp fired up, has an excellent training camp, get's injured once early on, comes back, get's a major knee injury, is out for many months, comes back at a VERY tough part of the season where I don't think he was 100% ready to come back, His knee was still bothering him during all that Turek hating that ran rampant through the city of Calgary, Kipper comes back giving Turek time to heal up on the bench, and plays some magnificent hockey at the end of the season when needed.
I saw absolutely not reason to bash the guy, aside from his paycheque. You try being a 6'4" butterfly goalie with a wonky knee and having an entire city hate you.
So yes, I'm very proud that I didn't stoop to hopping on the Turek hating bandwagon.
