We are! Just not in any of the weight classes who have been competing yet.

Mark Oldershaw finished fourth in his canoe 1000m sprint semifinal, missed qualifying for the A final, so no medal for him

He was looking good to move on until the final 100m.

AVK had a good heat. Not sure when his semi is though.

The speed these athletes can generate in the water in such a short period of time is amazing

AVK looks like he got hung up on the starting thing...or just the worst start ever.

Sucks for AVK, he's still got the 500m at least, which is the event he won his gold medal in.

Do the scores reset for tomorrow or carryover? Looks like we've now qualified, but are only fourth with a few teams still to come.

Speaking of AVK, check out his blog calling out sexism in sports:

http://www.vankayak.com/

This week my friend and fellow Olympic Champ boatsman, Adam Kreek made a mistake that I hope can prove to be a learning experience. While chatting with Ron McLean on CBC television, he expressed his opinion that Eugenie Bouchard may not be committed to winning, evidenced by her selfies, interest in fashion and social media presence.

This is the kind of tired, regressive, paternalistic, arrogant and sexist commentary that female athletes put up with all the time, and it needs to stop.

I don’t think the burden of defense rests solely on the capable shoulders of my female teammates. If men don’t call out men when we are being sexist, then we are not a part of the solution, and the problem persists. So here I am, calling out my friend Adam Kreek. Adam, you were sexist on television last night.

and today Kreek apologized.

“In a recent commentary, I questioned Genie Bouchard’s commitment to her matches in Rio based on her focus on social media and sponsorship activities. It was not fair to place my assumptions directly upon an athlete that I do not know personally. I did not mean for my comments to offend. Nor was it my intention to belittle the pursuit of fashion or selfie-art. For this, I apologize.”

He continued: “Our Canadian women at Rio are incredible. They are bringing home the maple bacon this Games. They have moved me to cheers and to tears. I feel nothing but regret when I think that my inadvertent comments, on live TV, could take any attention away from these heroes of our Games.”

I'm split on this. It is unfair that Bouchard gets criticized for selfies and social media when a man would not. I mean Pospisil has totally tanked this year after reaching the Wimbledon quarterfinal last year and he tweets a lot too.

But tennis fans compare Genie to Milos and Milos is incredible. His work ethic, his calmness and his consistency. So to say Bouchard is not committed compared to Milos is fair.

To be fair to Genie, she's worth millions off the court and Milos is, suffice to say, not worth all that much off the court. So she has an entirely different set of circumstances than Milos does. Also you have to remember as soon as she made the Aussie SF, the WTA basically made her the quasi-face of the tour. She's had a lot more expected of her than Milos has.

Milos is pretty active on social media himself too. It's just a matter of Milos being a better performer than Genie currently. Serena has a pretty busy off the court schedule and distractions I imagined as well, but yet she's one of the best athletes of all time.

I think any man or woman could be equally focused on 'selfies, interest in fashion and social media presence', and I think those things can be distractions (if they become too much of a focus).

I don't see this as sexist, and frankly, I think its sexist-phobic (just made that up because I am unaware of a better word) to suggest that it is sexist. (I think the phrase 'interest in fashion' is what probably caused people to interpret it as sexist.)

I too think Bouchard is too distracted by her fame (which is what I think he meant), and I believe it will limit her success. Which is fine - that's her choice.

But it isn't sexist, IMO.
