Default is this a tick?

So, noticed this on our dog this morning. Did some internet searching but its a bit inconclusive...

This is what we originally noticed:

So after some research on the web about removing them we read that you should rub around the spot to get it to back out...That didn't seem to work and now it looks like this:

Anyone have any insight into this. Thankfully our dog isn't in any pain but I just thought I'd check with the community before going to the vet.

I had a tick on a foster dog once. It looked kind of like that, but not so shiny and "wet" looking. It was more like a smooth rock. The advice I got from our foster coordinator, which she got from the vet was to use tweezers to pull it out. However, they said to dig into the skin with the tweezers to make sure you get the whole tick.

If you're not sure though, I would recommend the vet.

Last summer my dog got a red mark on her belly for no apparent reason. It got red right away and stayed that way for a few days. I didn't take her to a vet as I was out in the backwoods at the time but it did go away. From what I read online it could have been a bug bite. In your case not sure if its a bite, and I'd go to a vet to be sure

Pretty sure it's not a tick as it looks like there's hair growing out of it in the second pic.

I'm on the cyst side of things. That's definitely not a tick. Something may have burrowed in there but I'm going with either some kind of cyst or growth.

Those are very clear pictures. Were they taken with a beet, as a potato would never produce such a clear image.

But seriously, my dog had something similar a couple years ago. Ours ended up being a cyst we ended up getting removed. Id keep am eye on it and have it checked out by a vet.

My lab had a small tick last year in his eyebrow. It was a dark brown color with a rounded appearance. The vet took it out with a small plastic device with two arms that slipped under the tick and then the tick was gradually screwed out.

It didn't look like what your dog has. I would be inclined to take him to a vet.

Pay $125 and take him to the vet as it looks like there's infection potential.

Not a tick. I deal with them on my dogs here all the time. They only bury their heads, body and legs are free and exposed.
